M.I.A. Says New Album Out In July
M.I.A. has been periodically providing updates on the status of her next album, which for a while was going to be called Matahdatah but is now back to being untitled for the moment. The last we heard, the record was complete and handed into her US label, but there was some doubt over whether it would be released stateside because M.I.A. no longer has a visa and wouldn’t be able to perform live. She also said she wanted to leak her album, but seems to have backtracked on that in her latest Periscope update to her fans, which she broadcast live yesterday.
In this one, she revealed that the album has 12 tracks. One of those tracks is the previously released “MIA OLA,” which was originally built around a sample from The Lion King’s “Circle Of Life,” but due to sample clearance issues the version on the album will sample M.I.A.’s own song “Galang” instead. M.I.A. also mentioned that she was in talks with both Rihanna and Popcaan to collaborate, but that the timing didn’t work out. Her visa issues still aren’t worked out, and she’s a fan of DeJ Loaf and Grimes. And that’s it for today’s M.I.A. update!
She says the album is coming out in July. Watch her full Periscope below.
