Memphis punks Ex-Cult have announced “Summer Of Fear,” a brand new 7″ single set for an August release. To accompany the announcement, the band has released the single’s B-side, an angry lo-fi cover of the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band’s “1906.” It’s a fast, fuzzy affair that seems perfect for a sweaty crowd at a dive punk club. Ex-Cult’s Chris Shaw explained why the band gravitated toward this song:

The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band have an amazing catalog of California psych/folk rock, but “1906” has this downer, post-apocalyptic vibe that none of their other songs come close to duplicating. The lyrics match some of the negative vibes we channel and the guitar stabs on “1906” are a lot like some of the riffs we crank out on our own. It seemed like a natural fit.

There are two versions of the physical release, a more limited edition pressed to translucent red vinyl (limited to 500) as well as a black pressing. Both editions come housed in a die cut jacket featuring the classic Ex-Cult logo with a printed inner sleeve behind it.
