Kelela, Elysia Crampton, & Adrian Piper – “Reference Track TF Scrape”
Future-soul space-queen Kelela has a fascinating habit of showing up with new songs entirely at random, without warning, often with unexpected collaborators involved. That’s certainly the case today. On the strangely titled new “Reference Track TF Scrape,” she teams up with electronic divide-blurrer Elysia Crampton and conceptual artist Adrian Piper. The song is half blissful sigh and half dizzy percussive attack, and the two sides of it work in a strange and powerful harmony. The three artists put the song together for Anthem, the soundtrack to this summer’s Berlin Biennale, and you can hear it below, via Pitchfork.
