David Byrne Debuts Joan Of Arc Musical Songs At Roots Picnic NYC, Preps Neuroscience Exhibit
David Byrne has been busy lately. Yesterday, the Talking Heads frontman performed at the Roots Picnic in NYC, performing old Talking Heads songs and debuting some new ones from his new musical about Joan Of Arc. And today, he’s announced that he’s teaming up with London-based hedge fund manager Mala Gaonkar on The Institute Presents: Neurosociety, a neuroscience-focused art exhibition at Pace Gallery in Menlo Park, California. As The New York Times reports, the “immersive theatrical experience” will consist of four room-sized installations where visitors can participate in different cognitive experiments.
“We won’t be running these experiments like the labs do, but recreating some of their work in more entertaining or theatrical ways,” Byrne says. “We’ve asked the labs if they want data. So far they’ve said no…I think the labs will see there’s a way to collect data from this. Instead of a small pool of 50 students, you might get 1,000 people from different demographics. I think in the end they will find value in this.”
The exhibition will run 10/28-5/31, and tickets will set you back $45. You can purchase those here, and find fan-shot footage from Byrne’s performance at this weekend’s Roots Picnic below.
