Spoon – “Can I Sit Next To You” Video
Spoon’s second Hot Thoughts single — following the title track, and not counting “I Ain’t The One” — is a snappy and inventive powerhouse called “Can I Sit Next To You.” It’s like howling piano rock and funky dance-pop and psychedelic Bond theme orchestral music all at once, and you can hear it below.
UPDATE: “Can I Sit Next To You” now has an eerie/humorous video directed by Marcel Dzama. Watch it below.
UPDATE 2: According to a press release, “Can I Sit Next To You” has been appearing in public for months as part of an elaborate pre-release campaign:
If the new Spoon single “Can I Sit Next To You” feels eerily familiar, like something that’s been playing in the background of your life for the last few months, there’s actually a good chance it has: For the last few months, a campaign of subliminal placements of “Can I Sit Next To You” has seen the unreleased, unidentifiable track being played at various clubs and venues, as American Airlines boarding music, even by the house bands of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Using a song called “Can I Sit Next To You” as airline boarding music is kind of brilliant, no?
Hot Thoughts is out 3/17 on Matador. Pre-order it here.
