Hey guys. Im lovin the Strokes new promo cd i got hold of… The song “YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE” is by far the best song on the promo… Ive listened to it for almost 3 days straight! haha. I got hold of this promo cd at “filemp3.org” its a torrent file… Luvin it… ROCK ON!!!

  12. Am I the only one who likes Room On Fire more than Is This It (which I also love)??
I like Juicebox but its definitely a level under their previous work. And You Only Live Once is about the same as JB (I like the Oh-oh parts).

I, for one, like to see that they are evolving. Whether it better for the better or worse I don’t care -I hate bands that stay the same.

You Only Live Once is SO freaking awesome! Better than Juicebox

Can’t wait for theyr new album :-D

  14. Do you guys realize that even if “Juicebox” is bad, it’s STILL better than all the shit out there?

“You only live once” is crisp and refreshing and colossal. I admit that I quickly took a liking to the song, because I’ve been in a Cars/Supergrass affair for awhile, but I’ve given it time and an honest criticism (the only questionable aspect is the echoing of “nice.” Can anyoneexplain that?) But the hardware taps, the undeniable perfection between the lead, rhythm and bass guitars, the sparkling-clean riffs showering down into triplets when you’re expecting the Strokes usual hypnotic, formuliac repitition, the gathering intensity of the rythm guitar exploding in each chorus and sliding down into total euphoria, that beautiful, cocky passion in Julien’s vocals that made “Is This It?” so familar and endearing, and finally that fucking insane ending, that melting of the rough riffs and sudden disitegrating of the songs snowballing intensity, leaving us with a slight dissonance that begs to be replayed over and over… I just talked myself into this being my new favorite Strokes song–that’s right: better than “Someday,” “NYC Cops,” “12:51,” and “Take It Or Leave It”–which places it very high in the running for Best Song I’ve EVER Heard. The Strokes are excellent and I’m glad they still kick ass. I can’t wait for the new album and I know that given a chance, no one could complain about this song. (But what the hell is the “nice, nice, nice” for?)

whole album just leaked 2 days ago.
i think i’d hold that thought about the album being saved by just that one song (you only live once). :)

got a few first impressions of it; classic is not one of them.

some people think they’re always right
    others are quiet and uptight
that doesnt seem so very nice nice nice nice…
inside they might feel sad and wrong…
    29 different attributes
    always something that you like
20 ways to see the world
    or 20 ways to start a fight…
    …gogogo get up chchchchch
    ————————
    i can see the sunshine
i’ll been waiting for you baby
    cause im through
    sit me down
    shut me up
    i’ll calm down
and i’ll get along with you
    —————————–
a man dont know just what they got
oh women think of that a lot
1000 ways to please your mind
and every one requires a plan
    and countless odd religions too
it doesnt matter which you choose
one stubborn way to turn your back
i guess ive tried and i refuse
    gongongon get up

The guitar intro really does sound familiar, like the first 8 seconds sound like a direct lift from another song. I just don’t know what that other song is. Its killing me here. Guys think. But I do still love the song, and I liked juicebox too.

  24. tbplayer  |   Posted on Jul 25th, 2006

The strokes new album is definately better than Room on Fire cause it’s a departure from their original sound. Room on Fire was already sounding tired, I’d say about 4 good songs on the whole thing. First Impressions of the Earth has 11 songs and if they’d cut three of the bad ones, it’d be as good as Is This It? Personally, I still think the best strokes song is New York City Cops… and also Carl Barat totally kicks Pete Doherty ass.

  25. guru  |   Posted on Jul 29th, 2006

they ripped off the first few bars of Queens ” i got to break free ”

the chorus progression is classic….the Darkness used for their rock song “thing called love”
