The Mountain Goats – “Etruscans”
The anti-Trump charity series Our First 100 Days promises “one hundred songs that inspire progress and benefit a cause for change.” The 71st of those songs comes from the Mountain Goats. “Etruscans” is not from John Darnielle’s forthcoming Goths, and it’s not one of the full-band productions we’ve come to expect from the latter-day Mountain Goats. Instead, it’s a solo acoustic performance seemingly recorded at home, with what sounds like children making noise in the background. It’s lovely. Listen below.
By the way, per Wikipedia, “The Etruscan civilization is the modern name given to a powerful, wealthy and refined civilization of ancient Italy in the area corresponding roughly to Tuscany, western Umbria, and northern Lazio.”
