One album that may have slipped past you last year is Crying’s incredible full-length debut Beyond The Fleeting Gales, on which a band founded on video game music evolved its sound into wildly catchy ’80s hair metal territory. Another you might have missed the year before is Carly Rae Jepsen’s E•MO•TION (haha, just kidding, but then again, have you really heard it?), a sparkling collection steeped in another form of ’80s pop. Today those two titanic forces collide, with Crying covering E•MO•TION opener “Run Away With Me” for A.V. Club’s A.V. Undercover series. Unfortunately, it’s pretty terrible, so why not just listen to the original again or, even better, dig into the Crying album? (I especially recommend “Patriot,” the jam of all jams.)
