Ben Ratliff gives Deerhoof‘s new album high praise in the New York Times. He ends his review the same way a lot of my conversations about Deerhoof and this album in particular have ended: why aren’t they bigger? Is this album going to be their big one?
Deerhoof – “You Can See” (MP3 link removed)
Also great live- so good that the last time I saw them this relatively normal-looking guy put his brain down and had a fight with a wall. Check their site for tour dates.

First post, bitches.
Not funny, unoriginal, lame, I know. But it’s like a compulsive habit.
Possibly best cd of the year?
My favorite cd of the year. Deerhoof keeps growing, making almost impossibly better records every time out. I’m seeing them in Austin in November, they do put on a great live show.
its a great album
Maybe they should use, “It’ll make you put your brain down and pick a fight with a wall,” as a marketing slogan!
i wish they were bigger, but they probably wont be ever extra huge. Lead singer’s voice is too “difficult” for most
but yes, this album rules
I definitely think this is their most accessible album, and you picked their most accessible song on it. I posted mp3s the other day for from it, including this one. Great minds…
while i never find myself jonesing to listen to their albums all that much, they put on one unbelieveably good live show. so super tight and powerful, they make me want to buy a van and follow them around when they tour.
I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing them live, but yes, the new album is effing brilliant. Delicious catchy-yet-mindbending prog for the indie generation. I’m envisioning pop/rock music theorists already wetting themselves over this LP…

Thanks for the heads-up. I just recently got the new album, and then I found out they were playing at a pub in Orlando (where I live) on Thursday night. Plus, I don’t have to work on Friday b/c of Veteran’s Day. I will probably go to the show, and if I do, will come back and tell y’all how it was.
