The “rocks reflected in water” image at right is the cover of Kate Bush’s new album, Aerial, and it didn’t take long for people to wonder if that waveform-looking line was…well, a waveform. Adam Kempa photoshopped and audioshopped it into a listenable mp3, so all you obsessives can spend the night trying to figure out what the hell it means, so we don’t have to buy it to be in on the joke. Please.

zuh?
adam kempa?
how do you know adam kempa?
Adam Kempa fathered my thirteen beady-eyed children.
This track is pretty good. I like the part where it goes “bluurrr…bwuuurrppp…whurrrruuurrppp”. Sorta like “Running Up That Hill” run through an Atari 2600 that’s been stomped on a few times.
yeah wtf i haven’t heard that guy’s name in like 5 years. i used to love reading his site…
beautiful cover
You could pretty much photoshop anything and turn it into a sound file. That’s like a whole new field of art. A whole new boring field, maybe, but the century is still young.
That’s fascinating and all, but clear something up for me: are we actually TALKING (okay, writing) about a KATE BUSH ALBUM?? Maybe next week you can post a cover-art analysis of the new Suzanne Vega album.
Sounds just like every other Kate Bush album cover. She’s run out of inspiration.
damn that kate bush. waiting twelve years to release an album and then getting some publicity.
you’re an idiot if you think Kate Bush and Suzanne Vega and synonymous
for starters Suzanne Vega isn’t a fairy … she’s an elf
We are writing about Kate Bush because she is one of the most relevant artists of music in the last 25 years. The album cover sucks (sorry Kate), but so do all of her covers with the exception of Never For Ever. Kates covers and even videos are cheesy. Thats Kate though. It somehow works in this odd way though for her. The music stands alone. Utter Brilliance.
and to the management… shouldnt you be worshipping the next hit “indie” band? grab yer ipod and rock out, you dance rock rebel you.
Spot on Tyler. I can’t believe someone would compare Kate Bush to Suzanne Vega…
Easy fellas… it wasn’t a comparison. It was a joke. Just thought Kate Bush was a little random for the ‘Gum. I’m sorry if Kate Bush and/or her continuing contributions to the world’s music were in any way impugned. You people are almost as touchy as Laurie Anderson fans.
Id like to see a deathmatch of Kate Bush vs. Laurie Anderson. Kate could cackle like the winds and morrs. Then birth things to throw at Laurie. Laurie meanwhile could clamp her jaw sending soundwaves through her contact mics jamming Kates thoughts. All in all lots of big eyed animated poses on both parts.
i’ll bet if you listen to the audioshopped outcome of the cover, it’s the sound of one girl sucking. kate bush = most horrible noise ever. i still say “sense-oo-al” like her… whenever i want to sound like an asshole.
I’d have listened to ‘The Kick Inside’ more often if Kate’s voice didn’t sound so damn high-pitched and girly. No wonder she re-recorded Wuthering Heights on her greatest hits album.
Umm… Stephanie… Lets be fair here. I think youre missing about 17 “oooooooooo’s” in there. HA!
Her voice is an acquired taste for sure, but if you see what she was doing then it fits. Wuthering Heights (kick inside version which is way superior), her voice is cascading and that pitch to show the high winds and such. thats the hook of the song. her voice. the fact that she was 17 at the time and if you would look at the lyrical content of that lp you might surprise yourself. no female had done that at that point. she was expressing these deranged adolescent bedroom fantasies of a girl coming into herself. you get annoying tori amos whining about being sexaully assaulted at gunpoint. try a 17 year old girl reflecting on being sexaully assaulted by her brother and being impregnated only to have the kicking of the baby drive her insane (hence the title The Kick Inside).
It took me a bit to get into that voice. Its very off putting and grating, but once you get past that you see so much more. Her arrangements, production skills (hounds o love) and lyrical content are trailblazing.
i have been into kate for the longest time, so it rather blows me away that anyone could be put off by her voice. just one listen to experiment iv gets me excited…she sounds so damn hot.
Kanye West likes Kate Bush.
Kate Bush is afraid to fly. The cover makes perfect sense.
Kate Bush is God! Wonderful album cover, stunning music (sobs)…The ones who are critizing her here get a life and go to listen to Britney Spears, Mariah Carrey, ta!
