If you incorporate new music into it, that’d be bitchin’! You should try to get two (or maybe even more) people on it though – group podcasts, like radio, are much better than one person trying to command a mic (unless whoever you pick is really, really good).
Audio podcasts are a bit behind the times now. Video podcasting is where it’s at now that you can subscribe to them and watch them fullscreen through iTunes.
Naw, audio podcasts are “behind the times” in the same way CDs are “behind the times” compared to video-DVDs . . . as in, there are newer and hotter things, but they don’t really replace the older.
audio podcasts are SO twenty minutes ago. anyone who’s anyone has a folksonomically-metatagged location-based bittorrent-distributed wiki-edited micropayment-f1nanced video podcast.
ow. i think i just cut myself with the bleeding edge.
if you had a weekly podcast with new music in it and maybe some interviews and such i would subscribe in a second. a video podcast would be even better.
yes podcasts are excellent do one! Being a UK music blogger I’ve stumbled upon a few fantastic ones the best being http://NYUB.net featuring tracks by Wolf Parade, Tom Vek, Sufjan Stevens, Forward Russia, We Are Scientists, Bloc Party, The Shins, The Go Team as well as more unsigned acts.
The key to a successful podcast: Keep it short, regular, fresh and funny. And make sure to tie in it in with the blog too somehow, so people can hear a band, then come to site and find out more/ buy records/ visit their homepage.
I dont like Video Podcasts, they seem like a lot more work, and it seems to me that the majority of people will want to listen to the podcast on their way to work etc, not sit at their computer watching it. Video podcasts definetly don’t help the unsigned acts but you should definetly have interviews and such.
I only like podcasts when they are totally full of jokes. I listen to the Ok Go audioplays which are great. You guys should do one…it would be cool to hear your voices.
Yeah definetly ive been wanting a good one. You should do as the other guy said and tie it in eith teh site by playing music that has news or links incorporated with the site so its like an interactive kind of ordeal. It would be nice to hear a song and then go to the site to find out more about a group or just news about a group i already know.
I hate podcasts. Boring. Why would I spend 30 minutes listening to someone TALk about music, when I coudl spend 30 minutes actually listening to MUSIC. You ironic hipsters make no sense….unless of course it’s not about music at all. Hmmm….
And for all you saying “incorporate new music into the podcast,” you need to get permission from the labels to do that legally.
Short answer yes… Long answer hell yes!! I download about seven podcasts a week and listen to them on my hour long commute to work.
Whilel I’m at it I should give a shout out to two of the best: for movies reviews I like Cinecast with these two guys from Chicago and for music I like Radio Free Brooklyn.
“And for all you saying “incorporate new music into the podcast,” you need to get permission from the labels to do that legally.”
billy billy billy:
Its not that difficult if you take the effort, and scores of bands will come running with labels begging to play their tracks if a podcast was started up on such a successful music site. I run an mp3 blog with a much smaller reach than is possible with a podcast, considering the way it now works with itunes and I get offers all the time from bands and haven’t been turned down once after actually asking to use a track from labels such a virgin, dreamboat, emi etc. as well as all the indies who love the exposure. They can’t really say no! That is unless your expecting a podcast to simply be a round up of the latest tracks at the top of the charts. That would be rubbish and clearly would get the lables upset but if its mash ups, live tracks, rare releases, and the occasionally leak, hey, who’s complaining? I doubt the labels will, if its true that they are leaking all of these strokes tracks currently bouncing around my playlist.
And come on, it wouldn’t be 30 minutes of talking im sure, I like a bit of information about the bands, a like having the ability to know where they are from, their influences, tour dates and all that jazz that makes for a better musical experience in my opinion. And I listen to my own music all the time, a 30 minute podcast isn’t going to be released all that often so isn’t going to be that time consuming.
DO IT. Don’t listen to the nay-sayers. A stereogum podcast would be a great addition. You already have a large audience and media profile. You’ll find it easy to get material and set up band interviews via Skype. email me if you want tips – happy to help out.
Yeah, I’d listen to it, provided there is SUBSTANTIALLY more music than talking. Especially since I visit a website where I can already view your opinions about music But yes yes yes, do a podcast!
first, and yes. makes perfect sense.
yes yes please. that would be an amazing idea.
If you incorporate new music into it, that’d be bitchin’! You should try to get two (or maybe even more) people on it though – group podcasts, like radio, are much better than one person trying to command a mic (unless whoever you pick is really, really good).
But yeah, go for it!

Make it only music or interviews and no self promotion. I find that they are appreciated more if done as a bonus, large mp3 file and not a “show.”
Podcast would be mucho awesome!
I dont listen to podcasts, but I would if you had one.
I only like podcasts when they are totally full of jokes. I listen to the Ok Go audioplays which are great. You guys should do one…it would be cool to hear your voices.
Yes, yes please!
Perhaps do two podcasts, one with the music, the other with commentary?
I don’t really listen to podcasts, but do it if you think you’d enjoy it!
Yes and Yes.
Yes. I subscribe to quite a few.
Hell yeah, music podcasts.
We have a weekly one at Permission magazine (here’s the shill – come listen to us at permission.libsyn.com )
There’s nothing I like more than having “competitors.” The more the better. I’m ready to subscribe to yours, so get it going!
Yes and yes.
A couple of other good music podcasts to check out – both show what you can do with little to no budget:

2 yes.
HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if i had the resources, i’d do a podcast for clever titles are so last summer, but it’s not up to fucking awesome status.
as for best podcasts, when it was around, jump cut radio was awesome. (movies + indie music + awesome remarks = genius.) but it’s no more.
Have to agree with Mike, keep it short & interesting, I find some podcasts lose me after 10-15 minutes.
where can i get the new Macrorobotocon record?
Sure, but how’s your voice? Can you be as funny and relevent live? Stereogum is hard to beat.
si! por favor. gracias!
YES. I don’t listen to them as much as I come to your site, but that would change if you had one.
YAY!

Yeah! I’d listen to it.
Rockontop – http://www.rockontop.com/podcast – and 75 Minutes – http://75minutes.com/podcast – are good podcasts.
And NYUB like Mike mentioned above.
No. Instead, you should do a monthly recording and send out cassettes via the postal service.
Thanks.
My bagina says yes!
No podcasts please!! Spend time listening to music and reading stereogum at the same time!

Id be down with this.
I’ve been looking for good podcasts – I think Stereogum would be a great one!

i have to re-iterate meatbox’s sentiment:
uPodcast iListen. weEnjoy.
if you don’t that means you hate us
