As part of the British T-Mobile Transmission series, Black Kids joined forces with Cut Copy to do a recognizable, but thin (and, OK, wimpy) cover of “Union City Blue” from Blondie’s 1979′s Eat To The Beat (Thanks for the tip, Keith and Kristen.) Note: When the female backup vocals chime in like chalk on a blackboard, you almost want to return to the vanilla Cut Kids front man duet. Also of note: The flashing stage lights and huge “collaborations” sign are both in T-Mobile pink.
When I called this updated take on the track “wimpy,” I was just thinking the kick-ass original.

I agree, it was a bit weak. They sounded worn out. I wish the sound had been a bit better and it sounded as if some of the mix was off. Still, I think most people are willing to put up with the rough edges with a cover like this when it’s done full throated. I’d love to hear them do this at the begining of a show.
That was some pretty shitty karaoke.
Holy camera angles, Batman.
just FYI….the sound in the warehouse for this blew, it was like playing in an empty airport hanger……….and the bands only had like 2 hours to prepare the track together or something…..
