Who knows if it was the cancelation of the NHL season, the new Pope, or the mere existence of Arcade Fire, but 2005 was the year indie rock got bigger than ever. There were so many great albums, and at least a couple of instant classics, so we decided to open up Stereogum’s end-of-year list to everyone. The three of us can’t agree on a top 100, much less a top 20.
The deal: CLICK HERE (POLL’S CLOSED; TALLY, YO) to vote on Stereogum’s 2005 Readers Poll and we’ll randomly select a winner to receive the TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2005 as determined by your submissions. That way at least one of you won’t feel guilty about downloading most of them.
You’ve only got one week to vote (poll closes 12/21 @ 7 EST), so get to it!
UPDATE: You will NOT be disqualified if you accidentally voted for an album from 2004. Anyone who enters is eligible to win.

I might as fucking well post it. I’ve read down this far…
No order:
Wolf Parade
My Morning Jacket
Sufjan Stevens
Architecture in Helsinki
Wilco – Kicking Television
Kings of Leon
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Gorillaz
Lucksmiths
Shout Out Louds
MAHJONGG – RaydonCong 2005
Even though I see them on a few list, I think that Andrew Bird’s “The Mysterious Production of Eggs,” Bright Eyes’ “I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning,” and Okkervil River’s “Black Sheep Boy” would be as universally lauded with praise and unanimous stamping of “instant classic” a la “Illinoise,” “Kid A,” “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot,” hell, even “Funeral,” if they had an extra blog-grass push during their releases. Those three albums are fucking amazing and it’s a shame that their word of mouth will die in the next year. I only look forward to the next generation finding these jokers in bargain bins and falling in love with the respective bands. Am I right?

Hah, I’m not sure where in this post it asked for people’s year-end’s.
haha.
But what the hell.
No particular order.
)Deerhoof – The Runner’s Four
)Sleater-Kinney – The Woods (Someone up there said this is the most important record that came out this year. I 200% agree. I don’t know how the fuck anything like Kanye or the Decemberists place above this.)
)Fiery Furnaces – Rehearsing My Choir (and that’s not a bitch-pick, I actually found myself engrossed in the album when I heard it for the first time.)
)Bloc Party – Silent Alarm (even though I heard this one late ’04. And even though I want to shoot myself for still liking the album even after their lame-ass live sucking. Cod they suck live. But I’ve decided it’s about the track ordering.)
The rest of these do not belong on a year-end, but since I do not live in Sweden, I couldn’t tell you what else is right with the world.
)New Pornographers – Twin Cinema
)Wolf Parade – Apologies)
)Ani Difranco – Knuckle Down (shoot me I’m an ani fan. hardly her best material, but why the hell not.)
)The Kills – No Wow
)Reissues and Newly-discovered old gems.
I enjoy Love is All, but I’m hesistant to put them on any sort of list. yet.
CYHSY and Sufjan, I didn’t get into either. and Kanye West is a bunk MC.
Thank you stereogum comment box.
I am dismayed by the lack of love for Amadou & Mariam on here, also for little mention of Devendra Banhart. However, this /was/ a very good year for music of all kinds.

-Akron/Family & Angels’ split would be higher, but Angel’s side just drags so much compared to Akron/Family’s.

I’m a little surprised at the lack of Akron/Family and The Mountain Goats on everyone’s lists. I’m VERY surprised that I only saw Andrew Bird about 3 times. Those of you who have heard him know what I’m talking about, I see.
(DCfC-Plans?? Weezer-Make Believe???? Come on people!!! I’m going to assume you only listened to 10 albums this whole year.)
Why no Leviathan by Mastodon? That album rocked my socks till the clock couldn’t tock.
(I think it might have come out at the ass-end of ’04, though.)
Leviathen was released summer of ’04. I’m suprised no one else here gave any love to Mike Patton and the Executioners on their General Patton vs. Executioners. That cd is full of all sort of crazy goodness
Has anyone heard the Band of Bees??
