i love bloc party because they have the catchy beats of all those other crappy dance bands, but with better lyrics.
I love Bloc Party because I lost touch with my pretentiousness!
I love Bloc Party because they are on Vice and I really like to read Vice Mag. when I go poopie…
i love bloc party. why? cause the debut album is a masterpiece of rock that takes most bands years to make. cause the live show is fantastic. cause matt tong is bonkers on drums and kele’s voice is sublime. cause they make me dance. i could spend all day talking about why i love bloc party, but i think i’m just gonna go and listen to them instead.
cheers!
I love bloc party becuase they make me pee
I love bloc party because they are multi-ethnic. It is as if America’s melting pot learned to play guitar, threw in some disco drums, and had a killer voice. (Sure this theory is somewhat flawed in the fact that they are British, but other than that it is perfect!)
Also, if they can make a white boy like me dance, they are something special.
i love bloc party because i’m a yupster.
I love Bloc Party because, despite the fact that I’m currently recovering from this morning’s nose surgery and despite the codeine mellow I’m riding, I am fully prepared to disobey my doctor’s orders and get up and dance as soon as I hear the first few bars of “Like Eating Glass.” My face is dripping phlegm and blood, dammit! I need one break today ;)
“This must be Thursday,” said Arthur to himself, sinking low over his beer, “I never could get the hang of Thursdays.”
-Douglas Adams
I love Bloc Party because they got those hipsters to dance!
I love Bloc Party because they purposefully mispelled their band name like rap artists are known to do.
I love bloc party because this one time I was I kissed a girl and she tasted just like the lightbulbs i used to eat as a child. The moral of this story being that bloc party speak the truth just like Sufjan would if he wasnt so jesus-y.
I love bloc party because this one time
I kissed a girl and she tasted just like the lightbulbs i used to eat as a child. The moral of this story being that bloc party speak the truth just like Sufjan would if he wasnt so jesus-y.
I love love bloc party. Where else do you get to see all the neighbors on your street get wasted and eat hotdogs? At my last bloc party someone played a CD by some British band…..what were they called again….? The next party’s theme is gonna be “Phones Disco Edit.”
I love bloc party. Where else do you get to see all the neighbors on your street get wasted and eat hotdogs? At my last bloc party someone played a CD by some British band…..what were they called again….? Our next bloc party’s theme is gonna be “Phones Disco Edit.”
I love Bloc Party because I had no idea the lead singer was black for the first three months I listened to their album.
I love Bloc Party because Kele stopped the gig I was at to announce if we didn’t stop moshing and start rocking out like responsible adults he wasn’t going to continue. I aspire to someday reach his level of hipster curmudgeonliness.
I hate myself for loving bloc party, because it makes me a hipster…
i love bloc party because i heard them first
I love Bloc Party because they only have one album and already have a remix cd and a dvd (a documentary no less)
I listened to Bloc Party when I threw my annual banquet, where we all try our best at staying fat. All the attendees were, like, eating glass (that i bought on a blue light special), trading compliments and griping about the price of gas. There’s a positive tension in the room, and Jeffrey’s talked about his new helicopter. is from planet Luno. I mean, she was totally nuts. She’s hearing voices, and she had plans to annex canada, but nobody payed much attention.
So here we are, pioneers of this modern love, crowding around the latest stereogum contest like they’re pretty little tulips. The guys at stereogum will pick an answer soon. Best of luck to all.
(i think that was 15 song-drops)
I love Bloc Party because the extremely unfortunately homely couple who live in the building across from me (think of my own personal fat naked dude) decided to get it on against the window directly in eyesight of mine. They had the window slightly cracked blaring their music which originally grabbed my attention for being loud and rappy- DMX mayabe? I guess their iPod was on shuffle because when Banquet started up I guess it freaked the guy out or didn’t fit with his rhthym, because thankfully and mercifully he pulled out and she moved away from the window!
I love Bloc Party because their records are in the group of very few records worth paying money for (especially if you’re a college student, possibly the poorest college student ever.). There aren’t any songs of theirs that are filler, and endless playing of Silent Alarm is yet to get old.
i love bloc party because they’re the only people i can see a picture of on The Cobra Snake and say “HEY! I KNOW WHO THAT IS!”
I love bloc party because they’re so catchy and make me want to dance in the middle of the street!
Yes, dancing in the street is a bit dangerous, but Bloc Party makes it ok.
I love Bloc Party because they put on one hell of a live show here in Chicago last September. Also, I love their new song “Two More Years.”
I love bloc party because the album told me to come to the closet where it then proceeded to demand that I drop my trowsers and drink the cool aid.
I love Bloc Party because they make well-crafted music and put EVERYTHING they do on Emusic.
I love Bloc Party because they managed to make Israel and Palestine get along! What? They haven’t?!? Who’s Art Brut? Oh, them… they suck compared to Bloc Party.
Bloc Party Live is kind of a hit-or-miss. Sometimes they sound completely amazing, while other times… not so much. Great band, for what it’s worth.
I love Bloc Party because as a suburban, mini-van driving mother of two, I might be able to ruin yet another band for some hollow-eyed hipsters out there.
Plus my three-year-old goes crazydancing fucking nuts to it. Fucking. Nuts.
Because I have no life. And Ive never been to a Bloc Party Concert. Well.. Ive Never Been to a concert period. All i do is listen to it, and try to imagine em playing. and i get very sad when people say Tom is bonkers on the drums, or that the live show is spectacular. It seems like, most people here have seen them live, me on on the other hand, have seen zilch, zero, nada. I dunno i guess id just like to win a view of them i guess. but if i dont, then i will have to hunt down this darn dvd around los angeles. and i know its going to be hard finding it since everyone here is obsessed with this damn raggaeton crap, and so the stores kind of neglect jems like these dudes. God Bless em.
I love Bloc Party for a lot of reasons, but first and foremost is how amazing awesome “She’s Hearing Voices” is. I must have walked to that song (quickly as hell, too) a billion times.
Thanks!
I love Bloc Party because they made me love British music again…pulsating guitars…lyrics so real and true you can actually feel the heartache…and it has a good beat you can dance to…
I want the Bloc Party prize because I AM THE BALLS.
I love Bloc Party because they’re three of them.
wait..
I appreciate the fact that Kele Okerle and Hillary Duff share the same Dentist.
I love Bloc Party because 6 months passed before I discovered they were english and have a black singer. I think they are the first rock band with a black singer I enjoy since, I don’t know… Fishbone!
i have nothing clever to say about bloc party, i just love their music
Because it’s there.
bloc party are too cool for the extra consonant. thus, I love them.
i love bloc party because silent alarm has become one of not so many albums that i can play completely through without skipping one song. and they make me want to dance. yeah! and being british helps too. i seem to have a soft spot for brit bands.
“Like, I remember the first time I listened to the playback of ‘This Modern Love’ — I started crying right at the part where the backing vocals come in on the second chorus. I mean, it was so perfect — so perfectly what we’d set out to make, a song that’s, like, two people on the telephone, who can’t touch each other, and as the song and the conversation progress, everything amplifies. What starts out small and static, just rhythm and vocals, intensifies the way that conversation intensifies, intensifies to the point where you have the guitars and the glockenspiel and the extra vocal tracks.”
It still gets me, that part. Even now, we’ve played that song hundreds of times, and sometimes when I hear that shift happen, it overwhelms me. It’s always new. I mean, you have an idea of a song in your head, and then the first time you play it, it’s different. And then you hear it differently in the studio, and differently again when you perform it live. The songs are always changing. The trick is paying careful attention to it all, so every time they change, you’re always keeping up.”
–Kele Okereke
I’ve felt the same way about This Modern Love ever since I first heard it, and the fact that Kele can describe the song that way just makes me love them even more. I love Bloc Party for the way they strip me of my pretentiousness and just make me feel raw emotion.
And I love how they make me feel like a blubbering fangirl.
i love block party because two more years
I love Bloc Party because they’re slated to be on the bestest show ever, the OC!!! Yay!
I like/love bloc party because they wear nice perfume.
I love Bloc Party because you touch yourself at night.
I love Bloc Party because in 3 years I won’t remember who they are. Thank God.
I love Bloc Party because I saw them at a show in Seattle, and they made everyone dance. Anyone who can make people in Seattle dance is worthy of our love.
i love Bloc Party because they put the hairy cobrasnake guy in there DVD preview. He’s famous and has rich daddy!
I love Bloc Party because all of my weary cynicism and acrimonious bullshit simply cannot compete with the raw emotion and sheer force of will behind their music. Rock, rock on.
For one, the name is clever-ish, and second– they’ve got an Asian bloke (aside from all that other multi-ethnic/cultural/genre stuff).
i like bloc party because…….their cd is better then first impressions……but i still like the strokes…….*strokes/bloc party concert will b da shitnezz, if they have 1???? *cross-fingers**
I love bloc party because they spell “block” as “bloc”
I love Bloc Party because my brother owns the album.
I love Bloc Party ‘cos I can’t decide if I like Silent Alarm or Silent Alarm Remixed better.
I love BP because they had the best EP of ’04 and the best album of ’05.
Just give the damn BP package to me okay?
i love bloc party because: while the verse proceeds to the pre-chorus chant: ‘red pill, blue pill, red pill blue pill…’ i am uncontrollably, and shamlessly, randy.
i love bloc party because my “god bless bloc party” tote bag that i bought at one of the webster hall shows, has proven to be a great conversation starter. i may know and love bloc party, but not everyone does.
oh yeah. i love them because of their excellent tunes, as well.
I love Bloc Party because people like Michelle above can think that Bloc Party “purposefully misspelled” their name and not realize that they spelled it like that in recognition of their political beliefs, i.e. the communist bloc.
PS- their music is also good, notwithstanding the fact that the mentally challenged also enjoy it.
I love bloc party bc they play good music that is fun and addicting to listen to. And also bc their songs remixed sound really cool as well.
I love Bloc Party because they have an awful name but they still bring the rock.
I love bloc party because i loved “is this it” in the summer of 2001.
I love Bloc Party b/c they helped “bring me back” to music. Having grown up in the 80′s and living the college life in the late 80′s/early 90′s…I was a huge fan of New Order, Joy Division, The Cure, The Smiths, etc. Loved all the new music from them and the bands coming out at the time (Stone Roses, Afghan Whigs etc…) but not long after that I fell outta love with the “alternative” sound…esp. b/c it was no longer alternative. I actually remember the times before Pearl Jam(who I blame for shoving “my” music into the mainstream) Anyway…I started liking bands less and less until I stopped trying the new stuff and became a hermit listening to only stuff I already had and loved. Bloc Party changed that. They hooked me with their retro sound and made me start to give others a chance (She Wants Revenge, The Stills, The Colours, Interpol, stuff like that..)
So…I have BP to thank for bringing me back to new music. Yay for me, huh?
block party are over-hyped shite. their songs are boring. they lack any sort of hook, and they don’t sound like The Beatles. Get over it, listen to some 60′s music.
P.S. Do I win?

Bloc Party absolutely made my year. My friend gave me the EP and said, “here, this sounds like the 80s”. I disagree, but he’s too young to really remember the 80s. Bloc Party sounds like happiness. I love Bloc Party because they make me dance like a maniac, each and every time. I love feeling like I’m thirteen again, crushed in the first row of the show.
I love Bloc Party because they actually put out a GOOD remix cd. Who does that?
I love Bloc Party for the same reason I haven’t stopped smoking: I just can’t afford to lose any more cool…
I can remember the first time i heard bloc party it was The Fall of 2004. The buzz had just begun here in the states, I heard “little thoughts” I wasn’t blown away “the marshalls are dead” and even “banquet”. I couldn’t make up my mind. But when i heard silent alarm in its entirety I immediately regretted shelling out my $13 bucks. But by the second listen it all became clear. They are a 3-D rock N roll template. Their songs are so intricate and multidimensional, musically and sonically. They took every great band in the past 20 years and put it all on one record without sounding like plegarist. It sounded original, sincere and primal everything rock n roll should be. So bloc party pretty much is the piece of the puzzle that fit together all the music I love.
You know that part, in that song, you know, the one where they go “So fucking useless”? I love that.
Bloc Party aside, if I were judging this contest, Mikeymill would win, hands down.
I <3 Bloc Party because they make me feel justified in using the “heart” emoticon.
Bloc Party rules because Matt Tong has single-handedly saved the collective asian face by going maniacal on those drums and disrobing (ok, so, only his upper half) within withing minutes of every show.

i loved bloc party from the first listen of their ep. i made the hubby come with me to see them live and he then also loved bloc party. and then when we saw them live again and i lost the tickets, we paid another $43 just to get in the door to see the bloc party that we love. i had the great pleasure of meeting bloc party and they were extremely nice. and kele was very drunk and pointed at my bloc party pin on my dress and said slurringly, “bloooooooc party”. and then i left them alone. they didn’t hang out in the vip room sequestered from the fans with the killers, they hung out with the kids who buy their albums. i was smiling for a week. i love bloc party.
speaking of oasis, this song is about arrogance.
—Kele Okereke.
At ACL 2005, before playing “pioneers”
i love bloc party because they hate bush, and i hate bush
I hate bloc party. why? because they are undeniably good.
I like some of Bloc Party’s songs. Then Kele DJed at our indie night in London for charity, and the following photo was taken of him.

It’s so cheesy that I’m now quite happy to completely love BP. That and the fact that his real name is Ronald.
I think Bloc Party’s great!
I love bloc party because I spent 2 months obsessing over the first four songs alone. I’m constantly amazed by how each song gets better and better every single time I listen. God bless them indeed!
Bloc Party remains consistently amazing their whole album. Silent Alarm has both my favorite drumming in an album of this year and the best opening track of the year.
I like them for their spelling of the word bloc. It makes me think of NATO military leaders partying with Warsaw Pact dudes, doing the safety dance to “party at ground zero” and other atomic weapon-related songs.
I love love.
After reading some of these applicants, ahem, commenters, I have to say that the contest is going to go to FLOCKFLOCKFLOCKFLOCK hands down for his/her VERY clever 15 or so song-dropping story of an entry. Well done.
PS This is NOT my official entry
I love Bloc Party because they are the only band to ever kill chuck norris on a “Walker texas ranger” episode simply by rocking out so hard and making norris dance
I don’t much care for Bloc Party. But I love eBaying shit off.
I love bloc party casue when i saw them in Toronto they rocked my fucking socks off
I love Bloc Party because I really hate the letter “K” and I’m always down for a party. And the fact that MeatToad isn’t much of a band name–the choose wisely.
carmen geddit
I like Bloc Party because they remind me of the seperatist Quebec political party, the Bloc Quebecois
I love Bloc Party because I had no idea Kele was blac(k) until I saw their website.
I love Bloc Party because when they jump into a body of water, they don’t get wet, the water gets Bloc Party instead.
i love block party cuz they are damn sexy and their tunes are thumpin.
ha ha… as a canadian, i throw my support behind the above “bloc quebecois” comment… (whoa, never thought i’d say that).
bloc party have defo made it cool for non-white dudes to be indie rock…
I love Bloc Party because they are indie and I’m indie. Indie, Indie, Indie… P.S. Indie.
I love Bloc Party because they are like eating glass.
I love Bloc Party because there live show was an incredible experience. There is nothing like the entire Ford Theater screaming “Are you waiting for a Miracle” at the top of their lungs and jumping up and down in unison. Amazing.
Bloc Party is obviously a code phrase communists are using to signal the go ahead with the operation. Remember Red Dawn?
They released this years most outstanding album. And I missed thier only Live show in Sweden =(
