I think first of all, P!nk’s message isn’t just instruction… she’s saying that even she feels pressured by these things sometimes, that’s what that whole plastic surgery thing is about.
And I feel like, maybe she did make the video in part to show off too, or something, even subconsciously, but her motivation isn’t the point, because the message is still the same – don’t get too caught up in the media and lose sight of who you are or whatever.
Probably you’ll say I’m a stupid girl for this, but I don’t think that just because you dress a certain way you’re necessarily a stupid girl… it’s the way you think, how you treat people.
And even if you hate Lindsay and Hilary and them, you have to feel bad for them a little (well not Paris, she was born that way)… but they all face the same pressures we do, except more so, because they are filmed every day. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s easy to see how someone like Lindsay can get caught up in the whole Hollywood thing and end up hurting herself, bulimia, whatever. Same with Lindsay, Mary Kate… even when yo utalk about their partying and their drinking and stuff, maybe we need to feel a little bit sorry for these girls and realize that they’re pretty much like us, with their insecurities.
Because if you, and I, weren’t insecure, we wouldn’t care about how Jessica looks in her video, it would be nothing but a thang. The video just pressures us to look like that, and so we hate Jessica for it.

The video is great but bulimia is no laughing matter. I am currently studying medicine so im no ‘stupid girl’ and i have suffered from bulimia. Its the worst thing ever i hate myself i hate the way i look and i hate what i do i used to not go out of the house cause i hated myself so much. as far as the bulimia scene in the video goes, i don’t think the intention is to make fun of people with eating disorders, but to make fun of nicole richie (who looks more like a stick than a human being). pink looks a lot like her in that scene, with the short bob hairstyle and the baggy dress. that’s just the way i saw it.

I think that it’s a good thing that P!nk is showing young girls that they don’t need to be the common girly stereotype. I mean, I’m all for woman’s liberation and a lot of these “stupid girls” are all “why do boys think that they’re better than girls..OHHH SHOES” by making yourself come off as stupid isn’t gonna get guys to like you or make them respect you as an equal. It’s 2006 for A Higher Being’s sake! But I excersize like a maniac because I suffer from panic and anxiety attacks and it helps me relive a ton of stress. I’m the proper weight. Almost no girl can look like Paris Hilton without spending millions on either plastic surgery or a personal trainer that makes you give up your life for excersize. And what do you get? I think that the video is really good. I mean, even if you don’t like her style of music, you have to give her credit for saying everything that everyone else is afraid to say. Also, the part where she makes herself throw up, I think, is very effective in getting the stupid girls point across. Most videos, if the whole bulimc thing comes up, you don’t actually see them throw up. I was expecting the camera angle to change at that part and it didn’t. So I think that it’s really good that she doesn’t gloss over that. It just makes the video that much better. I mean, I don’t like to watch people throw up, but it makes the video more real, hit more closely to home I suppose.

After reeading the posts here I thought it was important to point out that although we all want to believe that Pink is a revolutionist, and she is speaking her mind, we need to remember that she too is a product of her hollywood environment. Lets all try to keep in mind this song was co-written with the writers that write for Britney Spears, The Back Street boys and Avril, to name just a few. Pink is an outcast, because that is what the record labels want her to be, they need the popstars that appeal to the young teenie boppers, and they need the rebels who stand out against society to appeal to the “misunderstood” teens, that is how they make billions of dollars evey year, by tapping into every market. Don’t get me wrong I would much rather listen and watch Pink’s video stupid girls, than sit listening to Brtiney, or watching Paris Hilton, but lets not get Pink’s attitude and style, mixed up with the fact that she is a puppet to her record label same as any other popstar out there.
The song has an important message, but still one that is approved as G-rated societal outlash, or Pink never would have been touched by a mainstream record label. The video was again very entertaining, and for all freaking out over the barbie doll, and football or rugby ball scene, can we remember that the producers of the video are using this as symbolism, not saying that if you play or played with barbies that you are a stupid girl, they are simply using the idea of what barbie represents vs what the ball represents. Ok I am done my rant now…
