We’re super excited about this. Stereogum & The Strokes are giving away:

  • 2 tickets to the band’s SOLD OUT March 3rd hometown gig at Hammerstein in New York City
  • 1 Band Autographed “Juicebox” CD Single Featuring B-Side “Hawaii”
  • 1 Band Autographed First Impressions Of Earth Poster

  • From what we hear, the Strokes don’t often collectively autograph memorabilia, so that’ll be sweet. But more importantly, you get to go to a concert that even we can’t get tickets to.

Winner will be selected randomly. Violently and randomly.

And while it’s not a requirement, we expect the winner to fill us in after the show (i.e., you be the reporter). If you take photos, send ‘em too.

    CONTEST ENDS 2/28 @ 6PM EST!

RCA marketing meeting “…no one’s buying this piece of shit Strokes record, let’s pay off these cool new “blogs” to expose them to kids who know they already suck shit…”

      Amazing idea!

    2. The Strokes make me happy.

    3. Well, (A) we don’t get paid for this, and (B) all their shows are selling out, so people (including me) still dig them.

    4. true that.
      cool contest.

It would be cool if they also included a good third album.

    6. Mike  |   Posted on Feb 10th, 2006

      Worst. Band. Ever.

      Total rehash.

    11. whats interesting to me is that the these days the strokes seem to be saying to the people who like their music: you bore us.

    12. Brian!  |   Posted on Feb 11th, 2006

I’m glad a lot of you guys find The Strokes to be boring now, it increases my odds of winning.

    13. Todd  |   Posted on Feb 11th, 2006

I’m more into First Impressions, in, like, a very pure, drumming-on-the-wheel, top-of-your-lungs, rock ‘n’ roll sense, than I have been any other record in a while. If you’re too cool to get into them, I just pity you.

So can I enter if I don’t live in New York and you can forge over the tickets to another person if I win? Or should I just not bother entering?

The Strokes suck. Marketing ploy. Ugh.

    17. nick  |   Posted on Feb 11th, 2006

So, if a band getting overexposed makes them lame, when everyone turns on them and stops listening to them, does that make them underground again?

The Strokes used to be awesome, they still are, but they used to too. So chill out.

And, Charlie Brown needs a Valentine: “To Be Alone With You” is about Jesus. Not that it dilutes the emotional meaning of the song, but just wanted to be sure you knew that before you tell a girl that you never knew a man that loved you. It’s still a great song. Nice mix.

I agree with both of you guys. I mean, come on. This “they’re not cool anymore” crap is getting old. What will happen when Interpol gets “overexposed”? Or God forbid, *gasps* Sufjan?

    19. Devin  |   Posted on Feb 11th, 2006

The strokes are still much better than the most hyped up recent bands.

      I like the contests, thanks…

    20. I think “First Impressions” is pretty cool, and I still like the Strokes as a band, as well. I think it’s a cool prize.

      Pick me.
      Pick me.
      Please.

    22. is that fabrizio in the middle of that picture looking all malnurished?!

    23. dave f  |   Posted on Feb 13th, 2006

i always found them very boring.

i hated that whole “garage bands are the future” thing a couple years back.

i blame britain for stupid things in music like that.

I have never missed a Strokes tour, ever…. since the very first Is This It tour. I even traveled 7 hours to San Francisco on a Greyhound for a show once. This year they’re not playing L.A.!! What?! I’m going to be in New York the week of the show to visit my best friend (slash Strokes “fanatic”), I neeeed to win this contest, or I will have to stand outside that venue and find a way to get in, even if I have to sell my soul. You have not lived until you’ve witnessed The Strokes live, there’s nothing like it!

    25. Yeah, that’s Fab, but I don’t think he’s the only one.

    26. I live at 41385 Commonwealth in Seattle. Been up here before?

    27. Jack Carter  |   Posted on Feb 4th, 2008

The Strokes are the new Bay City Rollers.
