This morning Matablog set forth some details on the second solo effort from Porn maestro A.C. Newman. The follow-up to 2004′s revisit-worthy, pop-lovely The Slow Wonder is slated for an early ’09 release and will feature Superchunk’s Jon Wurster along with fellow indie rock choir mates Nicole Atkins and Mates Of State. (Phil Palazzo gets a recording credit for the Brooklyn sessions.) The first listen will come as part of Matador’s freely available Intended Play Fall ’08 sampler, but that’s still a ways off. For now, get Guilty‘s album art:

Wonder if being a New(lywed) Pornographer will factor much into the material. Get Guilty is out 1/20/09 via Matador. It’ll cost you, but the life advice is free. (So are the Will Sheff collabs.)

  1. Highly looking forward to this, thanks for the heads up!

  2. Somehow this is worse than the NP’s album covers…which is saying a lot.

  3. I love A.C. Newman but this album artwork is like the Star Jones belly button of album artwork.

  4. Artwork aside, any album that combines Carl Newman and Mates of State is automatically a must-hear.

Stoked about this album. His debut solo album is a real thing of beauty, and one of my favorite albums. The people he is working with are fantastic (as he has proven he picks the only the best musical partners ala New Pornographers.)

But yes… The album art is ass. its beyond ugly and the font screams “hey mom! I just learned Adobe Photoshop! look what I can make!”

  6. ugh, that’s awful artwork. The Slow Wonder was at least simple and classic…that’s just, ugh. Someone in New Pornos has shitty taste in album artwork. A girlfriend or manager perhaps?

Another influence of Sex Clark Five, brilliant music, trashy album covers.
