Another budding problem.

What a shitty purchase. And my friend tried to warn me too!
I love the first customer review on that page:
These headphones suck because they don’t fit. Large doesn’t fit, Medium doesn’t fit, and Small doesn’t fit. As for sound quality I honestly can’t tell the difference between these and just me singing to myself in my head.
They fell out of my ears four times on the subway this morning. How am I supposed to listen to Natalie Portman rap?

definitely get the etymotic er-6i headphones. yes, it’s on the high end, but it’s worth every single penny paid.
That’s fukking funny! Love the site always Scott! You just made my shitty day a little less shitty. Sorry about your purchase. I like Shure headphones. Pricey as well, but nice.
The Shure e2c’s can be had for around $60 and come with six different inserts/sizes (2 types, 3 sizes ea)
I love mine and use them for on stage monitoring and pop in one ear for running a camera as well as listening to my iPod.
hahaha. I have those and one of the ear-buds suddenly stopped working today. Awesome. Definitely utilizing that limited warranty option.
I agree about the etymotic er-6i headphones. They are the absolute best I’ve ever had. Hands down. Two of my co-workers have them too. Everybody is blown away. I’ve never tried the Shure e2c model, but I’ve heard good things about those too.
Basically, you have to crack out a bit of cash to make ear-buds something you actually want to use.
Hope that helps.
I bought these, the sound is so shitty, i thought i was going to die…honestly
Matt
Sold mine to some sucker on ePay.
Mine fit just fine, but already broke. I think i might have been a little rough on them though. Maybe i have funny ears.
Mine work great, but then again I do have exceptionally large ear holes
i hate those damn things. they fit well and sounded okay, but both of my sets of the apple in-ear’s broke twice. Luckily the apple store was chill, and refunded me. Now i have the sony in-ear buds, a lot better sound and fit.
Sony MDR-EX71. The fit perfectly in just about everybody’s ears. Sound pretty great, and I got mine on ebay for like 20 bucks. Way better than the ipod in ear ones, cheaper than the shure and pretty close to the same quality.
Yeah, I had those an within two months one stopped working completely. Were great while they worked, though.
Replace the earpieces with inserts for the Shure E2c. Vastly improved sound, and they even stay in.
I second the Sony suggestion. I’ve had mine for about a year with no complaints, and now they come in white so you can still get iMugged.
Let me agree with the Etymotic 6i’s recommendation. They are spectacular!
The nice thing about them is that they are edible. So, yeah.
what’s up with youtube taking the nat rap off their site? f’ed up, if you ask me.
I agree with Ian. They are amaaaazing!
I had the apple buds and thought they were okay, until i lost all of the rubber caps. I recently upgraded to the etymotic er-6i, I highly recommend.
if your’e worried about fit, the etymotic fit so tight they feel like they are suctioned into my brain. They take some getting used to bet a great improvement over anything I’ve tried.
<3 my Sony MDR-EX71′s
Horrible headphones. I purchased some recently and returned them two days later.
Hey,
how’d you guys get the Portman rap on Pod. I’ve been trying but can’t get it to work. Any suggestions??? When it plays, it plays through Realplayer in IE and doesn’t give the option of choosing where it saves it when I try and download it.
Spend the extra $30 and get the Shure Ec3 earbuds. They are amazing. With the foam inserts, I’ve been on an airplane with a screaming baby in the seat next to me and heard nothing but music. The sound quality is excellent, too.
You can find’em on ebay for $120.
most earbuds are designed poorly. they deliver a low quality sound. in practice, the user cranks it, hoping to get the good sounds, only to force more of the bad sounds into the ear. it is all the high and mid range crap you get, no bass. add to that the quality of the mp3 you are listening to and you have a pretty good recipe for hearing loss. so be careful.
Yea I have them too. They SUCK! They broke within a month.
Can’t comment on ear buds, but I just got the noise cancelling headphones from bose. the fit is a bit tight, and everyone once in a while I feel the need to take them off and let my ears breathe. Other than that, the noise cancelling is awesome and will be even better on an airplane and the sound quality is great too. I recommend them, but I should say I do feel a little funny walking to class w/ these big damn headphones on.
Sony = awesome. Not the sound quality of the shures, but talk about durable! I?ve had an older model of the Sony MDR-EX71 for 4 years of hard abuse. I can?t tell you the model number because it?s warn off, as have all the chrome bits, but the little guys just keep on kickin?.
easily the worst apple product ever! I hate mine so much! none of the sizes fit properly, they always fall out, and the sound quality is terrible; I have to turn the volme up to the max in order to hear anything at a normal volume.
These things are the devil!, I hate them,Mine are still in the box.
I had the Shure earphones and loved them. However, after 10 months, the plastic covering developed cracks, then exposed the wiring and then broke.
A friend of mine got Etymotics and loves them, but they are pricey.
Slate magazine did a guide to earphones in 2004. They rated Standard-Issue iPod Earbuds the lowest.

I regretably asked for this exact pair o’ fones for Christmas and learned the full meaning of “Be careful what you wish for.”
Pitchfork gave them a 1.shit, so I should’ve known.

Or just get the Koss earbuds that have foam around the buds. $15.
Yeah, I bought a pair. Waste of money. I did eventually find a way to keep them in my ears most fo the time, but I hate the fit, hate always wondering if they’re about to pop out, and I hate the sound – they’re very clear, but there’s no “meat” in it.
By the way, you have to pull on your earlobe whilst insterting them – that’s the trick. But I still hate them.
Worst product from Apple ever (and I had a Performa tower in the 90s!). But hey – I tried to warn you in my Amazon review. Why didn’t you read my review, Scott?
get the sony buds. they arent ridiculously expensive, they fit, and they sound good. do it.
I have to second the accolades given to the Shure E3Cs. I got them as a Hanukkah present in December and I absolutely adore them. The sound quality is unbelievable and you don’t have to turn it up nearly as high as on the standard issue earbuds, which is what I was using beforehand. I will say that even with the foam inserts, they’re not *completely* sound-isolating, but I can still hear much more music when the subway rumbles through a tunnel than I could before, so it’s worth it. Also, they feel a bit weird at first and you have to make sure to get a snug fit in your ear, but they give you a lot of different options there (also the cord’s long so be careful). I don’t know if I’d spend the $120 on my own (maybe I would get the much cheaper e2cs instead), but man am I happy that I got them!
I have the Sony MDR-EX51 and the left ear went out on my first pair. Returned them to amazon (zero hassle, they sent me a new pair and THEN asked me to return the old), but now on the new pair…2 months later…the left ear is fading out again…
Other than THAT, they are great.
i am too lazy to look through the comments but i HIGHLY recommend earthumps. they have three different size and fit in the ear sooooo nicely (i use the smallest size) and they are only $20 (but shipping is like, $12): http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/earthumps/
This new type of headphones is a technology that will quickly die out. People prefer their old, comfortable big headphones that may be less pleasing to the eye, but carry a more quality sound. I agree that the iPod headphones are a regrettable purches, and would advise others not to buy them.
It’s hard to run in the big over the ear types.
I recommend against the Panasonic in ears. They have a super long cord that has a connector in the middle. It’s a good idea, but the short cord is only long enough to use with a medallion style music player hanging around your neck. I can’t run with my Creative like that, so I put it in my pocket. So now I have a cord that is way too long, with a large, heavy connector in the middle. Very annoying. Otherwise, the quality and fit are fine. Better than the default Sony or Creative ones, at least.
I’ve got to recommend the Shure E3s. Definitely worth the extra cash over the E2c’s. You’re just wasting your money on the koss or any of the other cheap ones. the sony’s are ok for under $50, but you might as well not cheap out and get some real headphones.
besides being the only person on the subway who can actually hear the details of their music and not have to blast their volume and kill their eardrums, you can be one of 3 people on the subway with out white wires dangling from your ears.
one time at the gym i saw someone running on the treadmill with those in his ear. i was mezmorized at how they weren’t falling out because i too, think they are super shitty.
que? whats wrong with them they can sit in your ears for hours and you dont get SEARING PAIN unlike the regular ones
Compressed music blows.
