Yo Gabba Gabba!, the kiddie show that grabbed our attention with original music from Cornelius and the Shins, has booked lots more bands to appear in season two. Ladytron, MGMT, Mates Of State, Datarock, Hot Hot Heat, the Roots, Jimmy Eat World, the Ting Tings, and Mixmaster Mike have all been invited by DJ Lance Rock to share educational tunes for tots. The fun started earlier this week with the Ting Tings singing Altered Images’ “Happy Birthday” to Brobee (AKA the green monster). Jimmy Eat World appear on today’s episode performing “Beautiful Day” atop flying cats and dogs. We have both clips after the jump in case you don’t TiVO much Nick Jr.

Anything that gets kids as far away as possible from the whole Disney Manufactured music of The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, and the rest of that lot, is just fine in my books. Glas to see kids getting exposed to some better music. Its also NOT Japanese animation, which is also good to see kids not watching.
oh, and Jimmy Eat World look like (and sound like) crap. the experation date on the whole Jimmy Eat World thing was about 3 years ago. But the Ting Tings were Entertaining. but it may also be that i find the lead singer super hot.

Probably, because my wife and I thought she sounded like crap and proceeded to fast forward through the performance.

I’ve been a longtime Jimmy Eat World fan and don’t think the world should be giving up on them just yet. They’ve made great progress since being a tiny indie-emo band that made it big, and if you heard their last album “Chase This Light,” they’re really catchy pop rock makers and It’s pretty much a crime that some people forget about them. The great thing about them is that no matter what style they evolve into, you can somehow trace it back to where they started off. While we have some pretty awful bastardized “emo” bands running around (and yes, Jimmy Eat World is partly responsible for allowing that to happen) the difference between the two is that Jimmy Eat World is sincere about it all. They’ve done some really cool covers too of Low, Teenage Fanclub, Guided by Voices and Heatmiser, so I know they are well-learned.

and Wayne Coyne. He even has a muppet voice (in a good way).

“Brobee” is also the lead singer for the OC ska band called Half Past Two, their album was produced by Aaron Barrett from Reel Big Fish. She’s also a really nice girl.
She mentioned that Jack Black hated being there.

I’m not a Ting Tings fan by any stretch of the imagination. Nor am I the sort of dude who leaves a comment on music blogs about how attractive such and such female musician is.
But when she “plays” the drum… well that just might be the cutest thing I’ve seen this month.

I’m so lucky I have a one year old who loves this show or else I might never have seen it. I loved the “Balloons Make Me Happy” song by The Postmarks. The Aquabats were really good too.
Oh and Jimmy Eat World had that one great first album and in my opinion have sucked ever since. I want to see somebody blog the Greatest 100 One-Album Wonder Bands Ever. I’d put JEW right up there.
I liked the ting tings “happy birthday”, but doesn’t that show look like a paradise for stoners?

i LOVE mgmt and i know it weird to watch a kids show but they are my favorite!!!
