“Illinois could have used this fleeting moment of instrumental brawn, the kind of super-arranger sleight-of-hand that can politely overwhelm,” sayeth Pitchfork.
Recommended if you like … Sufjan Stevens.

keep up the sufjan updates. it makes my day every time.
I like it, and also – I bought one of your shirts!
Thanks to everyone buying shirts. If you don’t want to buy a shirt, you can add me as a friend to MySpace. That’s a really cheap birthday gift, but I appreciate it more than e-cards.
Oh, and thanks Sufjan for the song. Great present, man.
i added you back in the day. i don’t know why. i don’t know who the hell you are.
cheers anyway, sir.
relevant comment: sufjan- for his age- might be one of the greater arrangers of our time.
this is the best birthday present i’ve ever gotten from you.
on your birthday. or the day after. yeah.
“Oh, and thanks Sufjan for the song. Great present, man.”
No worries. Just keep bloggin’…
i love sufjan and everything that he puts out. thank youuuu keep on singing sufjan
YES.
I have always been excited about hearing this song since I heard Sufjan describe it in an interview. He described how it was all acoustic for a song about technology, and the weird meter, and how it’s one of his favorite songs.
Yes!
All the freaky people make the beauty of the world!
I really like this song.
And now I’ve got almost 1/10 of the new Sufjan album/b-sides/outakes thing (not accounting for interludes and other stuff that glues his albums together.)
Thank you much, Stereogum!
woohoo, im from champaign and this is for sure a sweet song.
I’ll be curious to see the lyrics to this one. The vocal seems pretty hushed to my ears. Maybe repeated listens will help. I’m sure I’ll find out.
Nobody’s saying it, so I will:
How’s about that COBRA AND PHASES GROUP PLAY VOLTAGE IN THE MILKY NIGHT? You know, the 1999 LP by Stereolab? Gettin’ much play in the Sufjan household by any chance?
I love S.S.’s music to bits, but this is quite amusing. I guess the percentage of people that know both his music and that album is smaller than I’d like it to be.
Thank you!
