Last night, while you were resting up from all those winks in the Vice Presidential debate, Regina Spektor joined Ben Folds for a playful version of “You Don’t Know Me” on Conan O’Brien. As tipster Marc C. points out, there’s another guest of note in the horn section: A mustached version of SNL’s Jason Sudeikis having problems with this trombone. Something else to watch for: Regina’s Obama belt. All said, this performance has much more Spektor (and Flavor Flav), but less Josh Groban than the Tim & Eric-directed video for the track.

O’Brien noted Folds made his first appearance on the program 13 years ago, but that was with these guys.

Way To Normal is out via Epic.

Man, if you are a straight dude and don’t have at least an eensy bit of a crush on her, then you are probably Racist McGee up there.

I’m surprised it took the camera crew so long to realize Sudeikis was in the group. We didn’t start seeing closeups of him until the song was almost over.

    Great song, BTW.

Regina and Sudeikis were fun, but god Ben Folds sucks. Why does anybody like him?

    • Geoff  |   Posted on Oct 4th, 2008

Because Folds fans have great taste in music and that you do not. Also you probably jack off to crap like The Hold Steady, Metro Station, and Sarah Palin’s performance at the VP debates.

sarah palin put on a better performance than ben folds, geoff sixpack.

and you have it all wrong, geoff. i don’t like ben folds, but that doesn’t mean i jerk off to metro station or the hold steady. i bet the same goes for matt. in my case, i’m just an elitist deerhunter fan so i hate everyone.

        :’(

Deerhunter has never put out a consistent album though. That was one of the major problems with Cryptograms. Microcastle hasn’t done anything to make me listen to them in heavier rotation. But feel free to list some more bands that people with bad taste like “matt” listen to that makes them feel qualified to say “god Ben Folds suck.”

different strokes for different folks, geoff. i don’t really like consistency in albums. it gets boring if all the songs sound the same (which is why i’m not a fan of vampire weekend). microcastle is a lot more consistent than cryptograms in many respects. though, i understand why deerhunter is not some people’s cup of tea.

as for ben folds, i’m not a big fan of his voice and his songs are a little too poppy for my taste.. and as for this performance, i think regina definitely out shined him. she put him to shame..

boo… videos gone. ive heard the song though… actually surprised how well their voices compliment each other, heard a strokes and spektor compilation that sounded like they were just screaming over eachother.

At least you gave a clear reasoning for your thoughts on Ben Folds (unlike “matt”). To comment, I would not really consider Vampire Weekend’s album strong stuff. The album does fall apart as it gets to the last track. I would not even consider that consistent.
