Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, and The All-American Rejects have written exclusive ringtones for a new Pepsi/Motorola promotion. Not so surprising, as it’s the next logical step in the mobilization of digital music, and I’m pretty sure some bands have already done this (beyond spoken word, I mean). What’s funny is that Pepsi made the artists make videos for their “cool tones.” Forty-second music videos? Why didn’t MTV think of that?! Perfect for generation ADD.
Check out “the first ever ringtone music video” (Mary J.) here.
I miss Cool Cans.

%s1 / %s2

Speaking of portable music, Scott, will you be announcing the winners of the Buddha machines? I presume I didn’t win one. If not, I’m gon’ march off to order one for my girlfriend’s birthday.
I’m actually gonna keep the contest up a little longer ’cause I never gave a proper heads up that it’s ending. And THEN I will announce the winners. Post forthcoming.
Yeah, I was kind of hoping the lack of warning meant my chances were better. But fair is fair. Thanks for the response!
Sort of obviously (to me at least) they’ve already done this in Japan. They created all original animated snippets of songs off of Utada’s last English album “Exodus.” http://www6.islandrecords.com/utada/
