BBC reports:
Post-punkers The Alarm (who you may have seen recently on VH1′s Bands Reunited) have scored a top 30 UK chart hit – with a stunt disguising themselves as an unknown younger group. Recording under the pseudonym The Poppyfields, they are at number 28 after selling more than 4,000 copies of their 1970s-style punk single 45RPM. In its accompanying video The Alarm are replaced by teenage Chester rockers The Wayriders who mime along to the song. Singer Mike Peters said it was done to prove how much image affected sales.

Niiiiice. A publicity stunt and a major statement on the music industry all in one neat little package. Good for them.
whoa… i saw that once but it was called that one blues traveller video! then john popper lost weight but MAN can he make that harmonica SING!!
That’s pretty clever. I wonder if this was a result of their band’s reunited reunion?
i love rain in the summertime.
Brilliant Idea, stunt, whatever. It is so true that musice has become so much about style over substance. This fact is really brought home on those American or UK Idol shows where oftentimes the less than skinny girl is made fun of even if she has a wonderful voice. People need to fucking grow up, wise up, upen up their heads and hearts. Talent shoud tell and sell regardless of the artist’s size, race, or age.
New Order did that with the “Crystal” video a few years ago, although they didn’t change their name. All my 16-year-old classmates were like: “OMG! Like, did you see that new band NEW ORDER on MTV? They’re soooo cute!”
I shot them all.
Fish or fowl that Mike Peters knows how to ring a bell.
suij daotak.
