Did everyone have a good break? I spent the holiday watching a lot of TV ’cause I had laryngitis. The upside is I sound like Tom Waits and got to watch thirty seven episodes of that show everyone loves. No I’d never seen it before. Yes, I might as well face it I’m addicted to Lost. Ooh, someone send that to “Weird” Al.

Forty-eight strangers picked to live on a island find out what happens when people stop being polite … and there are freakin’ polar bears? What’s not to like?

But Stereogum has a rule that every post has to relate to music, so I kept an ear out. Mostly I just got that silly trombone. (The absolute worst moments of the series come when Hurley puts on his headphones at episode-end and the whole thing turns into Felicity for a minute.) But if one were forced to make a Lost mix, it could include (via Lostpedia):

Patsy Cline – “Leavin’ On Your Mind”
Joe Purdy – “Wash Away”
Willie Nelson – “Are You Sure?”
The Blind Boys of Alabama – “I Shall Not Walk Alone”
Charles Trenet – La Mer”
Damien Rice – “Delicate”
James Brown – “I Got You (I Feel Good)”
Bob Marley – “Redemption Song”
“Mama” Cass Elliot – “Make Your Own Kind of Music” (MP3 Link Expired)
Slim Smith – “My Conversation”
Billy Joel – “Easy Money”
The Drifters – “Up on the Roof”
Dave Matthews Band – “Stay (Wasting Time)”
Staind – “Outside”
Patsy Cline – “Walking After Midnight”
Skeeter Davis – “The End of the World”
The Kinks – “He’s Evil”
Pousette-Dart Band – “Fall on Me”
Perry Como – “Papa Loves Mambo”
Glenn Miller – “Moonlight Serenade”
Perry Como – “Catch a Falling Star”
The Seeds – “Pushin’ Too Hard”
Les McCann & Eddie Harris – “Compared to What”
Otis Redding – “These Arms of Mine”
Kasey Chambers – “Hard Way”
Patsy Cline – “Walking After Midnight”
B.B. King – “Chains and Things”

Maybe a live cut from Separation Sunday? Oh, and some Drive Shaft. You can download two songs at their MySpace, but you already knew that.

I’ve already dedicated enough time to my new obsession, but if you’ve got a theory or link to one that’s worth reading, post in the comments.

Are you writing from the future? What June 6th like, scott? Is it as beautiful as I imagine?

  2. i’ve been watching alias (also by j.j. abrams), and they used ‘delicate’ by damien rice in basically the exact same scenario as when hurley’s battery dies. recycled material!

Welcome to the dark side, Scott.

Check out lostpedia.com – it will take you a few hours of time so block it out.

  4. welcome to the dark side indeed.

those driveshaft mp3 dont work when downloading. says file not found. anyone succeed?

  5. 37! IN A ROW!…..sorry, I had to. Yeah, lost will own your soul. Come the start of the third season, I think it will pwn your soul as well.

  6. ABC has already used the “Addicted to Lost” thing, complete with Robert Palmer soundalike. Welcome to the support group.

  7. During the first season of Lost I did create my own mix:
    http://www.sciencefictiontwin.com/blog/2004/10/living-is-easy-with-eyes-closed.asp

It’s actually themed. The second season didn’t inspire me as much . . .

  8. Definitely some live Hold Steady should go in that mix. It’s shame they never flashed back to when Hurley actually takes the chick to the show. Dammit.

I 2nd the Lostpedia recommendation, and throw in two podcasts, one official and one unofficial. The official one is great because they have actor interviews and showcase the creators toying with the fanbase.

The new Lansing-Dreiden would be perfect for lost.
    ” The Divided Island”
Especially the song “A Line You Can Cross” and others fit perfectly.

Um, how about adding to the mix, “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by Peter, Paul & Mary?

    welcome to the club.

http://www.4815162342.com is arguably the best forum out there for all things lost. Just be prepared to waste all your time on it.

  14. Television Without Pity’s recaps are priceless.

  15. Hurley invited someone to go to a hold steady show? thats like in the break up when Jennifer aniston goes to a Old 97s show.

  16. “i’ve been watching alias (also by j.j. abrams), and they used ‘delicate’ by damien rice in basically the exact same scenario as when hurley’s battery dies. recycled material!”

J.J. loves to recycle. Also recycled: in Felicity a character gets hit by a car (well, a bus) almost exactly like how Michael got hit by the taxi in his flashback.

  17. Any CD with Kasey Chambers should be sent to an island by itself and left there

as long as that island is australia

  19. I think the creators kind of alluded to the cheesiness of closing episodes with Hurley’s DiscMan, and simultaneously cut the treacle, when they had it run out of batteries and Hurley said, “Son of a bitch.” Didn’t happen again after that.

  22. Greetings,
I am Earl and this is my first
post. I hope, I am posting in the right section, and I apologize in advance, if I posted inappropriately,
    please advise the right
    thread.
Not so long ago, I came across information about
investment funds, that are rarely published on
official investment resources. The yields, which participants could
receive by joining in such private clubs, appeared
    extremely high at
first, but as I investigated more feedbacks about them, I made my
    choice. Right now, I consider
    myself to be the successful
    investor. To
    share my findings, I
    set up the blog, which
    shows detailed information
about online investing. You can see my current picks, click here.
    I would appreciate
    your feedbacks.

  23. Glad to be here,
My name is Jason Lee and this is my first
    post. I didn’t find relevant
thread to post this, and I am sorry, if I posted in the wrong place,
    please advise the right thread.
About this time last year, I stumbled upon information about
investment private clubs, that are not readily available to the public. The yields, which participants could
receive by joining in such programs, seemed
extremely high at first, but as I investigated more reviews about them, I joined selected ones too. Right now, I consider
myself being the successful player. To
share my findings, I set up the blog, which
shows detailed information about selected investment websites. You can see my
    blog, here is the link.
    I would appreciate
    your feedbacks.
