Rolling Stone‘s Rob Sheffield gives Thom Yorke’s new one four stars. Pitchfork‘s Mark Pytlik is less impressed, recommending it only to those “predisposed to loving everything Yorke sets his voice against.”

I like “El President,” so I guess that’s me. And probably you too. The Eraser, the solo album we’re not supposed to call a solo album, is out tomorrow.

The Virgin Megastore Union Square is having a midnight sale tonight where you can win free Thom t-shirts and a signed promo CD. If you win the CD, you can sell it on eBay for the price of a half a Radiohead ticket.

Hear Eraser now at AOL Music. Then click around for streams of Sufjan, Rhymefest, Aretha, Muse, Soul Asylum, and Jesus and Mary Chain.

  1. rolling stone’s rating system is ridiculous

  2. That’s not the amount of stars I see…

5 stars? Then its up there with “To the 5 Boroughs” by the Beastie Boys and Mick Jagger’s last solo album? Makes sense to me.

  4. eureka, anon is right. i was going to say, I thought RS only gave 5 stars to the Chili Peppers and Beatles Box Set

  5. Oops — 4 stars!

Yeah, it’s not nearly as genius as a Mick Jagger solo record.

“Black Swan” played during the closing credits of Scanner Darkly; nice.

Oh, has A Scanner Darkly finally come out?

  8. I hate the Eraser. Horrible album. And, Nicki, Scanner Darkly was at Cannes and a few reviews are out, so I think its pretty close to release, if not out already. Who knows, I’m Australian, we get everything late.

Nicki – yes; it came out here in NYC last weekend and is quite good. I highly recommend it to those who love Dick. And drugs. And animation.
