Why am I posting a 40 second clip of the brand new Killers single? Because their Hot Fuss follow-up Sam’s Town (out 10/3) is one of the best albums of the last 20 years, if you haven’t heard.

(MP3 Sample)

I’ll replace the link with a full version when Fall Out Boy leaks it to me.

I have heard the whole song and the minor springsteenish sound. If that wasn’t written on mtv.com none of you would even notice it. The Killers are a good band and sure Flowers shoots his mouth too much but the reason I enjoy him doing it is to see people on the internet sit in their swivel chairs like thrones and cast judgements on 40 second clips no less you guys kill me.

i hated hot fuss when first heard it. probably in my top 5 albums now. all u guys who love springsteen so much gotta be over 40. the killers rock, if u dont like em so much why bother to listen to the song…… get a life.

Lets get this out of the way first: all you bashers are bitches, okay done with that. I have heard the full song and absolutely love it. You can’t base a comment on a 40 second clip (no matter how good it is) you have to hear the whole thing to judge it. Brandon Flowers has a great voice, a lot better than any of you could do (or me for that matter) so saying it’s “wobbly” is a little ill conceived. So listen to a song in it’s full glory, except if it’s Rap because, well let’s not get into that…

This track is powerful…I feel bad for the hipsters, cos the worst thing you can throw at this is that it doesn’t actually sound like Springsteen. This track feels natural and is absolutely massive. If they’d cloned Born To Run, people would hate it. Since they didn’t, wannabe elitists are trying to use it against them.

If this track is a knockoff of anything, it’s Ryan Adams songs like “Tonight” (bonus track from Cold Roses), right down to the Adams-esque vocals.

The people who hate this track sound just like the ones who used to rip into Oasis for making big, powerful music instead of sulking in some indie corner. I doubt it’ll be as huge a success, but I do hope Sam’s Town goes multi platinum and kills off the remenants of all the bands who are scared of decent production, writing a good song, and making the music they wanna make, and all the emo soundalikes while they’re at it. Just like Oasis killed off the bastard children of grunge, and just like Cobain killed off crap like GNR.

Man this track throbs Springstean a little less American than Bruce though. The killers re vamp of their image is a bad idea but this song is fantastic.

  7. stephanie  |   Posted on Jul 17th, 2006

you can hear the full song on islandrecords.com/thekillers and dont skip the intro and its playing in the background

  8. This is not brilliant. I’ve heard the full version, on their website… and it’s boring, repetitive, and poppy. Ok some of their album was poppy, but it was good, this is just crap. Sorry, but i’m really not feeling it, maybe the album will be better… but i coulda written a better song than this!

Personally, I like this new song just as much as I liked the songs on Hot Fuss. I don’t agree with the stuff people are saying about Brandon’s voice being shaky and whatnot. I think that in When You Were Young, he actually takes the oppurtunity to stretch his vocals and it sounds great. His voice sounded good on Hot Fuss, but in this new single, it’s not covered up as much with synthesizers and instruments. You can actually hear him reaching those high notes and tell how his voice has evolved.

  10. If you guys dont like the killers…hmm, funny how you all talk about them!!!
with all your hate comments, you guys sure have time to talk about them…comes from the ones that hate the killers!!
so, if you guys talk about them..it means in a way, you all like them (in your own way)!!!

Speaking as someone who hates the Killers and is going to love Snakes on a Plane, I HAVE heard the whole version and I COULD judge the whole song on a 40 second clip. Why? Because “We’re burning down the highway skyline on the back of a hurricane” painted one of the lamest mental images to ever find it’s way into a song and IT’S THE FUCKING CHORUS. That sounds like Ryan Adams rewrote “I Can’t Drive 55.” I don’t care about Springsteen comparisons, but I’m sick of people saying that glamorous, macho bullshit is going to “save the mainstream.” This is not, in fact, the worst period in time for radio. Sure it’s bad, but if it merits saving by The Killers (of all bands, The Killers?) then pop music MUST be terrible.

fox, I do think you could write a better song. I think we could all write a better song.

  14. Thats the problem with this world if your not like everyone else you suck or your gay….The lyrics are smart! The Killers are a great band of our time. The Killers found there sound with Hot Fuss and now they are bringing it back with even better musicianship! Great song, cant wait for the release.

95% OF ALL MUSIC CURRENTLY ON THE RADIO IS CRAP COMPARED TO MUSIC BACK IN THE DAY. ITS NOT ABOUT SUBSTANCE OR ORGINALITY ANYMORE, BUT SO WHAT. MUSIC AT THE END OF THE DAY IS MEANT TO MAKE YOU LAUGH, SMILE, OR JUST DANCE LIKE THERE’S NO TOMORROW, SO LETS ALL TAKE THE STICK OUT OF OUR BUTS, STOP WHINING AND COMPLAINING AND ENJOY WHAT THE KILLERS ARE TRYING TO GIVE US; SOMETHING TO SING ALONG TOO!

You people who dislike this song because of it’s influences make me sick. cant you just appreciate a brilliant song for what it is rather than trying to compare it to something else. thats not what music is about. the lyrics in this song are amazing and they can mean so much to so many people and all some of you are doing is talking about how crappy the keyboard sounds! get a life!

Heywood Banks said it best in his song “Write Bob Dylan A Check”. (Sheryl Crow, Tom Petty et al should just write Bob Dylan a check for all their work was the point of the song.) Buncha haters on here goin’ postal on The Killers going Springsteen on “Sam’s Town”, when a couple years back everyone was all goin’ haters on “Hot Fuss” saying they were Duran Duran. The Killers are The Killers are The Killers are The Killers are not you and you’re just f***ing jealous. So there.

“THE BEST ALBUM IN TWENTY YEARS” is misunderstood and as its “when you were young” song that should be the most successful secular song to almost RIP the LIE of religion apart.

you guys have been talking about the song scape but you have missed the WHOLE POINT. read the lyrics and understand what it intended to say.

See the meaning of “He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus”

An awesome one liner with many layers of attack on the wickedness of ancient religion to deceive man to idolize (in this instance JESUS). The whole story about the heart broken girl is not about a normal love gone wrong. Its about the dark side of catholism causing ppl or the woman in this instance being indoctrinated for years to think that a man if he happens to resemble the features of Jesus should a good man.

Its a retake on the truth that if you create an image and say its good. ppl tend to associate it unwittingly through conditioning. Thats a deep truth!!!!

How’s that for a song? Mosts bands (even Radiohead) are child’s play and they are a juvenile bunch trying to be clever with words. Without any essence off course.

The Killers is trying to be like U2. Trying to review the truth tactfully through songs without being banned or worse…
