Stream Mars Volta’s “Viscera Eyes” at MySpace. Not my cup of prog, but apparently I’m supposed to listen to De-Loused first. Props on a tracklist I can’t pronounce, though.

Mars Volta Amputechture (8/22)
1. Vicarious Atonement
2. Tetragrammaton
3. Vermicide
4. Meccamputechture
5. Asilos magdalena
6. Viscera Eyes

Alternatively, Sparta’s “Taking Back Control.”

De-Loused is an amazing album; quality of work went downhill after that however…

De-Loused is my favorite album of all time. This, however, just isn’t very good.

  4. I’ve heard the entire album and it’s neither as good as De-Loused nor as weak as Frances. In fact, the second half of the album is excellent. But I have a side that loves prog-rock (Dream Theater, bitches), so take that with a grain of salt.

    Vicarious Atonement? Meccamputechture? Viscera Eyes?

    I already have a headache.

    they have HORRIBLE album covers

  7. I don’t know…I just don’t get this band at all. I liked that first EP, I guess. And they really deserve to be excoriated for the name “De-Loused in the Comatorium.”

The Tremulant EP is good. De-loused is better. Frances is pretty weak. I expect to be dissapointed.

  9. yeah. i wasn’t one for ‘frances the mute’, and from what i’ve heard, this is better. but its no ‘de-loused…’ or ‘tremulant ep’.

but i would take at the drive-in over the mars volta anyday.

At The Drive-In over Volta? I wouldn’t after hearing their greatest hits last year…so many clunkers on that album.

Sure, the Volta have a gift for the over-the-top, but I like listening to something that I know won’t immediately spawn thousands of imitators who will go on to profit off of their rip-off artistry on the warped tour.

SOOOOOOO pretentious. I hate this band. I mean, I really hate those puke-stained album covers

  14. I am digging the new album, theres nothing else like the mars volta – they try new things. Good to hear some more voice-changing gizmos being used aswell

Fantastic Alblum. For those who like De-loused, and not the subsequent one, they don’t understand the real Volta. De-loused was prodeuced by rick rubin, so he heavily influenced them and didn’t let them fully expand. Rick wanted to sell records so he made it as poppy and mainsteam as The mars volta would let him. Frances and Amputechture is pure Mars volta, where Omar Rodriguez-Lopez produced it and wrote it himself. Someone above me said it was low quality….the musicianship on it is outstanding, even those critics who dont like it still admit that. It is also there goal to sound completly different every time. If you dig that, and are comfortable with music as an emotion…there a phenomenal band, and EVERY record is as well.

You may dislike it, but to call it low quality is ignorant.
