I like it more every time I hear it! It’s fun, good hooks, fitting vocals…everything it takes to make a hit pop song.

It does kind of remind me of Coldplay’s “Talk”, as far as guitar goes. The hooks…well, they remind me of lots of songs, Springsteen, Meatloaf, too many others to name. I guess that’s how music gets popular right? Appeal to the masses.

  2. This grows on you…..

That first album was a quality album…for the second to surpass it is gonna be tough

    but livin in hope

OMG wake up everyone. The Killers are the best. The song isn’t so MUCH of a step up from Hot Fuss. But I love it. I can’t wait to hear the whole CD. The song kinda has the same flow as Hot Fuss which is good. They aren’t trying to reinvent themselves into something they aren’t. You gotta love the sound. Like some said THEY ARE FROM VEGAS AFTERALL. Their style is to go overboard and unnaturally awesome.

i take back the part about sounding like Hot Fuss. This shit soudns nothing like Hot Fuss. His vocals are more higher, which you have to love. This single is the best and you all know you are anticipating the release of Sam’s Town because you know the killers will..well…kill it.

I’m really glad The Killers came on the scene… they’re tons of fun. Fresh sound, interesting lyrics, gorgeous to look at, and wonderful musicians all. I love this new song from their second album. It’s so… emotional.. hard-driving… exciting… and beautiful. Exquisitely arranged, really. ~sigh~ Thanks Killers.

  12. I am a huge Killers fan and when I first heard this song, I was a little dissapointed. I felt like it wasn’t as catchy as their other songs. WITH that said, after I heard it a couple of more times, it actually started to grow on me. I now absolutely love it, still not my favorite Killers song, but def worth listening to!!

  13. adfaecc  |   Posted on Aug 15th, 2006

I must admit when he first started singing on this track I cringed and thought “oh no” but I’ve realized something. I think the people who say they hate is vocals just listen to the vocals and not how they blend with the rest of the song. Brandon Flower’s doesn’t have the best voice but its very unique I think. a lot of the singers to rock bands sound the same to me (and luckily that sound is a good one)and its hard to tell who does what song. but I think I’ll always be sure that its the Killers. And his voice goes really well with the sound of the band. and overthetop? yes! that’s what makes them great to me, they’re shameless. and I agree that the song gets better with subsequent listenings.

  23. Aghast  |   Posted on Aug 19th, 2006

The vocals seem somehow detatched [not to mention rather thin, wobbly and echo-laden]. And when the swelling synth/guitar riff kicks in it seems to confuse everything. The “driving down the highway” stuff scares me a little, given the 80s-esque leanings of Hot Fuss. And no-one seems to have commented on the misguided backing vocal section towards the end that comes out of the blue and goes nowhere. I loved Hot Fuss but, on the strength of this release, I’m worried about Sam’s Town. Very worried.

  33. tash  |   Posted on Aug 28th, 2006

ok i couldnt be stuffed to read all the comments. too many. i like the song and i think they have potential past what they did with hot fuss. i’ve heard a few of the songs that didnt make it on to the album and they rocked harder than half that stuff.

  34. marisha  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2006

i really like it. its been stuck in my head all day. hell im listening to it now but yea its certaintly not the best in twenty years

  35. the_beard  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2006

just another feeble attempt at reincarninting a classic rock song to try and further yourself in the mainstream… it worked for the ataris, briefly. so, when in need of a hit, redo a decade-old hit. it’s so sad… 2 years from now… “the killers who?” – “oh yeah they did a horrible version of springsteen’s ‘when you were young’” blah.

  36. kkkkkkkkk  |   Posted on Aug 30th, 2006

I like the song very much

The song fits the killers very good and its their typical sound… cant understand why ppl complain about it. Its just music and you like it or not you dont have to make a big deal about it everytime a band brings out their new stuff and start a discusion about them losing their roots -.-

  37. Phil Alex  |   Posted on Aug 31st, 2006

Dear god people! This is only one song. Lets see what the whole album is like before we judge the direction the killers are taking.

The song was pretty good. I’m a musician so I tend to hear the bad notes more than most, but even this song just had some fine tuning work. Yeah Brandons voice is strained half the time. Hopefully the album version will be a little more clean.

The lyrics are still the usual killers tone, but the music itself is more upbeat. Still sounds great to me. Although, I do agree the killers should lean a little more toward their hot fuss sound for a thrid album. The band is still doing great.

  38. blah  |   Posted on Sep 1st, 2006

You guys are a bunch of idiots. If you knew better, you would know that this album is influnced more by American Rock, rather than the last album which is more on the British side.

Simplicity is the key. Of course it’s not Stravinsky but I like it. With such piece of pop aboard a car, gearbox will change gears much faster.

  41. Mark_22  |   Posted on Sep 7th, 2006

Hang on – hang on, seriously………hang on. That Riff – is a rip of ‘talk’ by coldplay is it Jon? Grow some ears boy, you have issues.

Who don’t you whinging rich boys and girls just sit back and enjoy this song rather than criticise everything you hear. Springsteen was great, but this is 2006 now – move on!!!

I bet you lot are the sort of people who’d whinge at a train being 1 minute late and self harm yourself because of it.

    Go home.

  42. Does anyone else hear the Psychadelic Furs? Yeah, it sounds somewhat derivative, but this is one of the first songs in YEARS that has me rocking out and crying – simultaneoulsy.

This is a great, great fucking song.

  60. fixxxer  |   Posted on Oct 14th, 2006

It baffled me very much, but always when i listened theirs songs at first time i didn’t like them at all and didn’t even understand how can people listen such a piece of shit or how can they stand his voice especially. But some time after i listened it again and realized that the songs were pretty good!!
I suppose this was because of vocal, not of Flowers voice by itself(it sounds not bad), but of what they get after recording…They definitely do something with it because the voice is felt so unnatural. It seems like he sang not through a microphone but through some kind of pipe! But it still not very bad (even James Hatfield sounds ridiculous in his early albums) So i hope they’ll found their sound!
And what about “When You Were Young”, by now I’ve listened it about 10 times or somthing like that and as you can guess eventually i love it!!!

  66. el monstro del aguile  |   Posted on Oct 25th, 2006

rip off or not, this song is pretty good. For those who think it’s about the devil… I’m not too sure about that, maybe you’re looking too deep.

I’m sure it’s about a girl who has done some bad things in her life and shes looking for that one guy to come for her, sure he may not be perfect but he’s what shes been imagining since she was young. Doesn’t look a thing like Jesus, but more than she’ll ever know, because she’s done some bad things… maybe not going to ‘heaven’ soooooooo she’d only come in contact with the devil… so she would never see Jesus…

  67. Vanessa  |   Posted on Oct 26th, 2006

This song reminds of a young girl from southern Mexico who falls in love with an older man. He saves her from her old fashioned values by taking her virginity. They marry and all is great. She catches him cheating, considers suicide, but he comes to the rescue. He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus, but he saves her. He is all she knows. She goes back to her old ways and like a good woman tolerates infidelity. Sadness

  73. Well I like the song a lot. I don’t care as much as some of you do about rock, but this song touched me a lot (I’m a guy). The music catches and keeps attention and the voice of the singer is full of emotion, even if vocally speaking I think he has still some improvements to do.

About the video, I don’t think that the (Asian?…well, we will say pretty) girl is coming back because she tolerates that her husband is cheating on her; I think that she decided to fight for him when he came to save her from suicide. In addition, we can clearly see that his desire for his wife returned when he watches her cleaning her feet. Well, the song was fun, even more with the video: we don’t have stereotyped people, though they’re beautiful^^

  74. I cant stop listening to it!!!!!!!! its my favorite

  75. this is the best song ever

  76. Nuckster  |   Posted on Dec 2nd, 2007

This song is holding up way after its release. Springsteen mixed with the Cars from a Vegas perspective is an original concept if nothing else. Cheers to Flowers and the rest of the Killer boys for making a great song. Looking forward to the next album.

  77. Chris  |   Posted on Feb 17th, 2008

Regardless of your opinions on this song, most of you need to grow the fuck up. A few english lessons wouldn’t hurt either.

  78. Ha – look at all the wannabe music journos claiming plagiarism and doing their best to diss creativity. Everyone’s an expert huh? Get a life guys – great song, you ever tried writing one?
