Only once have I called a radio station to find out What was that awesome song you just played?!!
It was Sloan’s “Everything You’ve Done Wrong” and I’ve been a fan ever since.
The woefully neglected power poppers posted a glam new single (written by Jay) today. It’s called “Who Taught You To Live Like That?” and you can hear it at myspace.com/sloan. The band’s been playing it in concert for a few months now.
If you live in Canada, you can download “Who Taught You…” for free all week on Canadian iTunes.

please remove the disturbing “my fair brady” add on the right side of the page. thanks.
I LOVE Sloan! One of my fave memories was DJing a show they played.
This is a terrific tune although I am kind of bummed I can’t get the track in the States yet.
Sloan. Jesus, are they still around?
shout out to sloan!? heck yes!
At last! An iTunes advantage for Canadians, to make up for the fact that we can never access those celebrity iPod lists that Stereogum occasionally refers to. . . Jennifer Garner, anyone?
Wow, this is a terrible song.
Yeah, I’d gladly trade all the built in benefits of being Canadian if I could only access American celebrity iPod lists.
You are aware of just how easy it is to access the US iTunes store from this side of the border, aren’t you?
i’m not as big a sloan fan as I used to be but for some reason it excites me that stereogum likes sloan.
as every good canadian knows, the only good sloan songs these days are the few written by jay or andrew and this one is no exception. thanks for directing me to the sweet tune.
Whoa, that’s their best single in awhile. Since when has Jay written such a big rock anthem? Good goin’, Spade lookalike.
Sloan had one good album, ten years ago. Then they moved to Toronto and put out one hot steaming pile after another.
This song must be an answer to the people who’ve been calling them out on their “slick” and “over-produced” last few albums — it’s really sloppy, and badly recorded, but not in a good way. Also, hey, remember when they wrote lyrics that weren’t just slogans repeated over and over?
sloan rules.
I really liked One Chord To Another and the bonus disc Recorded Live At A Sloan Party. There is also a great VHS of their videos called Second Hand Views.
Let’s hear it for a non-Patrick single! Jay’s songs were the best things about Action Pact, and it seems like he’d been pushed off the last couple albums to make way for Patrick’s stabs at punky Modern Rock success. (Did anybody buy it for a second?) Hopefully Andrew will have a couple this time.
While I liked Jay’s and Chris’ contribution (for the most part), Action Pact was a big steaming pile of ProTools abuse. “Who Taught You To Live Like That?” may be dumb, but it sounds like they’re at least having fun.
Welcome back, boys, my stereo missed you. We’ll forget the last two albums if you promise to make more songs like this.
I saw them play here in St. John’s a couple of weeks ago, and they’re still just as excellent live as ever. I don’t remember them playing that new single, but it’s a good one.
Good song

I’ve been a Sloan fan since 1991, and this song signals (hopefully) a return to form. I haven’t been a huge fan of the last two albums, I’m afraid.
Check out the compilation A Sides Win (with DVD) for a history. I think their best album is One Chord To Another, but Twice Removed and Navy Blues are right up there.
They also happen to be really nice guys, who are very, very generous to their fans, which never hurts.
One Chord to Another is one of the best records of the 90s – and Im an American. Between “everything…” and “good in everyone” and then one of the best pop songs in modern rock – “the lines you amend”.
Too bad Between The Bridges has been so overlooked. It’s a freakin concept album!
Cool…..perhaps you’ll post a file up pretty soon….yeah sloan in the lale 90s were superb and vastly underrated/dismissed..they were the kinda band who had a bonafide trilogy (ala kinks, blur, and yes oasis)…they were that great .yeah they did not trade in arsty or cutting edge sounds (they are classic pop), but they had a gift of turning the timeless into timely….hope to hear the new track soon…too bad they never got radio huge like they should have, but they are in good company with the rest of this ilk (VU, Big Star, Teenage Fanclub)
Thanks for putting that shit into my ear drums. I need more Duff.
