EW alerts us of the drink of choice this Oscar Sunday:
Sofia Blanc De Blancs is named after everyone’s favorite dark horse Oscar nominee.
This description of the wine comes from the Niebaum-Coppola Vineyard site:
Poetic hinting at romance, sparkling with a touch of glamour, ebullient and bubbly, the youthful energy of our Sofia Blanc de Blancs captures the hearts of all who revel in it. Born out of a celebration of love, as a gift from father to daughter, Sofia is a tribute to the spirit and life of a young woman. The 2002 Sofia is a complex sparkling wine that represents the character of a revolutionary woman coming of age.
Kampai (I’m told this means ‘Cheers’ in Japanese).

I think that Fernando Meirelles, (City of God), should win but I think that Clint Eastwood will win, afterall, he may not be around much longer and he did create a great movie. I also read that many of the Oscar voters are 60 years and up, so they will definitely feel for the guy. As far as Lost in Translation, it was a good movie but it when you look at the other movies, and when you look at the other nominees in the best director category- I think Sophia Coppala should thank her lucky stars that she is even on the list of nominees, in fact, I would of rather seen Alejandro González Iñárritu for 21 Grams on that list instead of Ms. Coppola.
Someone’s still angry at the Godfather III fiasco…
