Another off the wall countdown from our friends in print media.

These are Q‘s Top 20 guilty pleasure tunes. If we’re supposed to be ashamed to love some of these songs, my iPod just blushed.

4 I’m Not In Love – 10CC
5 Rock’n'Roll Part 2 – Gary Glitter
6 Cold As Ice – Foreigner
7 Rebel Yell – Billy Idol
8 Whatever You Want – Status Quo
9 Baker Street – Gerry Rafferty
10 I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
11 Since You’ve Been Gone – Rainbow

You can listen to their rationale in this

.

Can we agree, the music media has officially run out of lists? Today AV Club ranks the “14 Classic Tom Petty Opening Lines.”

  1. I think I fucking hate Q magazine.

Almost as much as I hate most of the songs on this list.

How long til Q run a Best of Q Lists List?

  2. BOSTON RAWKS!!!

Seriously, though, my iPod is also blushing. Although, I dig the Foo’s cover of Baker Street more than the original.

  3. If singing along to ELO is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

I’m with Courtney on the Foo cover, but the original still is on my playlist. And if you’re going to put a guilty pleasure song on there from Boston, why not ‘A Man I’ll Never Be’?

Unbelievable. I never understood the idea of a guilty pleasure. Love what you love. And Livin’ Thing is way up in my Top 10. I’m insulted.

  6. I third the Foos cover. And where’s the Arctic Monkeys? Doesn’t Q have to put them on every list?

  7. Yesterday I learned “Baker Street” was played on MTV’s very first day! Hurrah.

there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with 10cc. how dare you! is a great record.

  9. How bout Billy Idol? That’s great stuff!

  10. artie lange  |   Posted on Aug 2nd, 2006

    They left out Eddie Money.

  11. how the fuck is living thing a guilty pleasure?

just because it’s pop? this is the list i love to hate (does that make this list a guilty pleasure)

  12. I’m not ashamed that I like any of those, or REO Speedwagon’s “Time For Me To Fly”. Or anything by REO Speedwagon.

They move me. Besides, there are too many “indie” bands out there who are supposed to be really good and cool or whatever(at least a lot of people tell me they are), but who, in reality, aren’t really good.

  13. That reads like one of my mix cds I make for my commute.

    Don’t blush, turn it up.

Q has really turned to shit, big time.

How about a “Top 20 Stupidest Music Lists of All Time” list?

  16. Ooh la love… My iPod’s looking a little pink around the ears, too.

Uh uh, no way, nobody is going to make me feel the least bit ashamed or guilty for thinking Livin’ Thing is the best song of all time. I try not to let these lists get to me, but… Q magazine, have you no decency, sir?

  20. The thing that’s ridiculous about the Tom Petty list is that it’s basically just a collection of tracks from his greatest hits album. I read it a day or two ago, but if I remember correctly 10 of the 14 were from there, and two were from after it was released. Way to dig deep for the research there.

Lots of other options. A One Story Town, The Best of Everything, Straight Into Darkness, Letting You Go, It’ll All Work Out, Keeping Me Alive… If you’re going to make these lists, at least do them well.

    17 for 20, baby!

    That’s so lame, it’s indie!

    Rebel Yell?
Thats a decent semi-cheesy song, a million worse than that though.
