Even if you’re not from Jersey, you should give a listen to the title track from Gaslight Anthem‘s forthcoming American Slang. It’s a good one, complete with dead friends, epic battles between angels and devils, gallows, tattoos, and fortunes told in American slang. It’s streaming at MySpace. The album’s due in June.

It may or may not have to do with the fact that they’re from New Jersey.
I saw them without knowing who the heck they were when I went to the Oxegen festival in Ireland. And I absolutely loved them. Very talented and entertaining. But for some reason I can’t get into their albums. Not to sound cliche, but they can’t capture the same amount of energy in the studio. But I think it’s better to be a great live band than to sound good on tape and sound like shit live.
