Ah, those Brits. They hate the emo, and loooove their Gallagher brothers. Accordingly, Q‘s latest Greatest Songs Of All Time poll has resulted in the dumbest list ever, with Oasis claiming the #1 and #2 spots (“Live Forever” and “Wonderwall” respectively), as well as #20 “Don’t Look Back In Anger.”

Incidentally, the alleged absence of “Live Forever” from the band’s forthcoming best-of Stop The Clocks is apparently rubbish. Oasis have not revealed the tracklist. But if you can guess it you win a prize.

Anyway, here’s Q‘s top twenty so you can collectively roll your eyes.
1. ‘Live Forever’ – Oasis
2. ‘Wonderwall’ – Oasis
3. ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ – Nirvana
4. ‘A Day In The Life’ – The Beatles
5. ‘One’ – U2
6. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ – Queen
7. ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ – Joy Division
8. ‘Stairway To Heaven’ – Led Zeppelin
9. ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ – The Verve
10. ‘Paranoid Android’ – Radiohead
11. ‘Angels’ – Robbie Williams
12. ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ – Bob Dylan
13. ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ – The Smiths
14. ‘London Calling’ – The Clash
15. ‘Hallelujah’ – Jeff Buckley
16. ‘Billie Jean’ – Michael Jackson
17. ‘With Or Without You’ – U2
18. ‘God Save The Queen’ – Sex Pistols
19. ‘Comfortably Numb’ – Pink Floyd
20. ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ – Oasis

Anyone that puts more than an Oasis track in a “Best songs of all time” list, even if that list goes to 100, has absolutely no idea whatsoever about music and must be castrated to prevent offspring.

Oasis? Top songs of all time?

That’s so tragic that you’d have to be Mancunian to defend it.

at least, there are songs we don’t always meet in other “greatest songs of all-time”lists. but it’s true that having oasis for the first 2spots is somehow exaggerated. and some other songs also deserve to be there.
when I look back at this list, I realise most of these songs are “relaxed songs” (don’t move a lot, sentimental songs, etc.)

Why is there so much bitterness about Oasis? I’m sick of hearing these stuck up pretentious arseholes slag off Oasis, with the intention of belittling those who listen to them by questioning the integrity of Noel Gallagher as a songwriter. The fact that these pricks will refuse to listen to music if it can’t be described as ‘profound’ is pathetic. Just because you never made it to uni doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of greatness. Oasis deserve more respect, they weren’t the most sophisticated band around but who cares? Noone questions whether or not the Sex Pistols were good and their tunes were even more basic than Oasis. Live Forever is an amazing song, it soars as high as anything The Beatles did. You only need to hear it once to know it’s great. I’m not gonna lie and call it genius, it’s just a song, but it is a total one off brilliant song with a melody to die for. One of the comments up there is spot on, the order of the list is irrelevant, these lists showcase the best of popular music, all the big bands are there pretty much and what a way to incite discussion.
As for Angels, it deserves its place too, just because it wasn’t sung by precious Thom Yorke or Jeff Buckley doesn’t suddenly make it shite. If it had been a Radiohead song people would hail it as possibly the greatest song of all time and it would get analysed to death. The anti-Robbie comments are fair enough though.

this list i so pathetic.!! ”One” must be one of the worst U2 songs ever made, its absolute junk, its a fact! And what about live forever. I surely havent heard anything dumber than people claiming it to be number 1. thats just ridiculous. pathetic. hilarious. etc. smells like teen spirit? woooow.

    this shit’s just ridiculous.
gotta pay NO attention to this. these lists are worthless and so far from whats actually happening.

ANNND…. good reason to hate this magazine besides fokin NME!!!

Oasis are quality and possibly the greatest band of all time, ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Wonderwall’ deserve to be first and second. In my expert opinion Q magazine got it spot on. Also, good to see U2 songs in there.

When I first saw that ‘Live Forever’ was number one I thought it was near on a joke. I agree with all those that it’s not even the best Oasis song. Oasis are a good band but I wouldn’t even consider them one of the best bands ever. Personally I prefer Blur…
