Well, technically, of Montreal covered R.E.M.’s cover of the Clique’s “Superman.” The Texas group, led by songwriter Gary Zekley, recorded it first in 1969 (a very of Montreal year) and then R.E.M. popularized via Life’s Rich Pageant in 1986. Regardless, on Halloween in the City Of Brotherly Love, the people in of Montreal not named Kevin Barnes dressed up like the Man Of Steel — Barnes remained in his indie-rock diaper — and gave us a new spin on the track.
For old time’s sake, here’s R.E.M making Gary Zekley rich:

This is the WORST cover since the Zutons BUTCHERED Amy Winehouse’s Valerie.
that’s a little harsh. seriously, aside from a few off key moments its a pretty fun cover and i’m sure it was been a great surprise for the audience.
did kevin buy a new SG??
Covers of covers? It takes the song far far away from where it began. I’m not sure if that is good or not yet.
leave well enough alone, kevin.
The Ziutons wrote and recorded ‘Valerie’ in 2006, Julian Meteor, and it was Winehouse that butchered it (for Ronson’s 2007 ‘Version’ album) so get your facts right, yeah?
whatEVER. They BUTCHERED it.
Uh, nice post, Brandon
