We haven’t been (at all) shy about how much we like Gang Gang Dance’s Saint Dymphna in person and in recorded form. If you haven’t had a chance to catch the New York institution live, this footage of an October show at La Flèche d’Or in Paris offers a bit of an idea of what it’s like. There’s a charisma that radiates from GGD when you’re in the same room, though, and you don’t really get that here … but you do get multiple camera angles. This is “Egowar,” off pre-buzz, also brilliant God’s Money.

You can see another clip at Grandcrew, where they’ll supposedly be adding even more footage from the performance.

Saint Dymphna is out via The Social Registry. Remember, we also showed you GGD doing “House Jam” in Tokyo, but no need for second-hand smoke at this point: They’re still on the road.

  1. Thanks for posting the footage…now I know that I will NEVER need to see or listen to this garbage…EVER! Good lord, it’s embarrassing that anyone can say this is even remotely good with a straight face.

hey dawg, not everybody can be as good as vampire weekend and tv on the radiohead.

Don’t be so harsh. I thought the same thing after seeing the live version of “House Jam” on this site (my first exposure to GGD), but after hearing the studio version, I LOVE this group. Give some of their studio stuff a listen–they can be a bit rough around the edges live, and I imagine it’s a much different experience in person than watching the video.

I really dig GGD! But I can understand where you’re coming from with not being too fond of this live performance. But I agree with the last post, you should totally check out their studio stuff…it’s a lot easier to get into and once you are familiar with the songs it’s easier to appreciate the live stuff. And even if you don’t dig the music they are still a pretty fun band to watch.

  4. First, thanks for the post !

For those who still dig Gang Gang Dance (as we do ;) ), the next part of the show will be available on http://www.grandcrew.com next Monday.

And @wtf?, come and check out Chateau Marmont performance. Still psychedelic but less impenetrable at first sight ;)

See you soon on http://www.grandcrew.com for more exclusive shows !
