I rarely buy CD singles. These days, you’re just gonna get the album cut and four barely distinguishable remixes.

However, this week I was willing to make an exception for Grandaddy. The pastoral art-rockers’ new “I’m On Standby” CD Single promised a new version of the title cut, a stellar tune from their fantastic Sumday CD.

Grandaddy I’m On Standby CDS
01 I’m On Standby [New Version]
02 Stray Dog And The Chocolate Shake [Studio Version]
03 The Town Where I’m Livin’ Now
04 Fare Thee Not Well Mutineer [Video]

Man, what a waste of $5. Listen to this “remix” version:

EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ALBUM MIX! Oh wait, I’m sorry … is that a faint slide guitar I hear in the chorus? Not sure. Could be the breeze. Yes, I got jipped.

Advice to winner of tomorrow’s Stereogum iTunes Giveaway: please exercise better judgment than I did.

  1. Well, you should have known it was going to be bad. I mean, c’mon, it’s Grandaddy!

Go listen to something good next time.
Para example: The Mars Volta. Or. Godspeed You Black Emperor.

    heh.
