Last time we caught up with Thunderbirds they were goofiing around backstage after a blistering performance at SXStereogum. This brand new video captures the energy of their live their set with one clever gimmick: a strategically swinging lightbulb. It reminds us of our favorite new ubiqutous, late-night commercial, except, TAN!’s bulb rocks.

The chorus goes: “We’ve heard this one before / Nothing new and nothing more.” Ryan Allen explains to Spin it refers to his band’s opinion on today’s music as “stale, image-based…and like 18th-wave emo.”

And while Allen admits the song’s title has little to do with its lyrical content, the moniker comes as “a pat on our own backs from us to say in a slightly cocky way we’re hoping to win the battle between bullshit music and not.” When asked if his band achieves this objective, Allen joked, “Probably not — we just write a bunch of disco-punk.”

New album Make History hits stores 10/17. The band will be playing 4 CMJ shows — three parties (Awesome Inc., Brooklyn Vegan, and Insound) and the Frenchkiss Records showcase — so hopefully you’ll see them at least once.

i find it ironic that they make a bold statement about other bands when they are a crappy copy of Les Savvy Fav.

Well that girl, I like the Constantines, The Twilight singers, and the other bands from Detroit that deserve to be listened to like the Holy Fire.

  18. NoFX, oldy but goody.

I’ve seen this band a few times in Detroit.. and they’re like spastic children. Musically retarded with an overabundance of energy. Devoid of any talent whatsoever. How did they get a record deal, press, and a video?

    Oh, the irony.

But lord, they need a new vocalist. I’ll admit I would probably like this if the lead vocals didn’t suck so much. But anyway, Editors (despite also being less-than-origianl) did it better.

  21. I’ve seen these guys plenty too – they’re about fun and not about taking themselves too seriously. And I love them – very cool grounded guys as well. Bands that gravitate people – love ?em or hate ?em – usually have a lot of loyal fans. That?s why they get record deals and videos …. So this is just another opinion.

Music is about expression, if you like it then buy there CD. If you don’t then don’t be a hater, just go buy CD that you like and chill

They’ve decided to kill my interest in them. They had me with the their first album “Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief”. It was very expresive, upbeat, and provocative to me. ‘Pink Motorcycle Helmut’ was the highlight of the album. Then I saw them when “Justamustache” came out. They didn’t play the old songs but I still liked them. It wasn’t as good as the first album but it was good listening. Up until a while ago I pre-ordered their album excited with what they were going to come out with. Then I got came yesterday and I think I just wasted my money. This isn’t at all what I wanted. It is too damn overly structured and the lyrics are really amaturish. I reminded me of the way I use to right. And Adams voice just pierces my ears. As far as the message goes, yeah I’ve heard this one before too.
