In their October issue, Jane asks B. Flow The Same Five Questions We Always Ask. Here’s our favorite.

Jane: What word makes you cringe when you hear it?

BF: Artist. Just shoot me if I ever refer to myself as an artist. Call me “rocket man” instead.

Anyway, dig up an interview where the Killer calls himself an “artist” (or “Rocket Man”), and we’ll pre-order you a free copy of Sam’s Town.

It’s one of the best contests of the last twenty years.

Someone tell Brandy, that “rocketman” is even more pretentious than calling yourself “artist”

“Other artists complain about me, but I only worry about my songs.”

Spin Magazine, not sure what issue

an indirect reference to himself as an artist but still

    Does this count?

Tiscali Music: Do you not feel like you’ve done something important already then? I mean you have recorded a great album.
The Killers – Brandon: It seems like you are always trying to prove yourself.
I think it’s a good way to be. I think you should always have a level you are trying to surpass. If you look at all great artists they are the same. They work hard at what they do to get where they are at. You do have to burn brightly to shine.

He compares himself to other “artists” in this one http://www.tiscali.co.uk/music/interviews/the_killers_interview.html but that’s all I can find…

  5. Keep ‘em coming. We’ll pick the best one. Adam, yours is *pretty* close … but I’m hoping there’s a Brandon “As an artist,…” quote out there.

  6. Good job Adam.

    I’d say that passes.

i think the rocketman bit is to a tribute to his pal elton john.

i’m sure there have been interviews where he referred to himself as an artist directly. earlier ones, i guess, before the industry got to him.

  8. Brandon Flowers is dumb.

how about this one…the interviewer calls him an artist, and there is no disagreement from Mr. Flowers

another one in which he dances around it…talking about their “Artistic” decisions

  12. Jasmine’s is the best so far. By saying “other” artists he’s inherently saying he’s an artist, too.

  13. Ha, they sure didn’t turn down their 2005 VMA for Best New Artist.

  14. Sean  |   Posted on Sep 22nd, 2006

I say it only counts if he actually refers to himself *directly* as an artist.

    “As an artist…”, etc.

DM: What words of encouragement can you offer men who want to start wearing makeup?
BF: It?s okay to say ?I?m an atheist and I?m an artist.?

Do I win?? Someone else can have the CD.

  16. I thought he was Mormon.

  17. Brandon  |   Posted on Sep 22nd, 2006

    Jack I want the CD!

I can’t believe how much time i’ve wasted at work on this…

  18. zenigmatic  |   Posted on Sep 22nd, 2006

yeah, the mormon quote I saw made it sound like a disease, “recently admitted to being a mormon”

but my fav quote yet is from G8 coverage:
“worries about the effect their creepy lead singer Brandon Flowers might have on the global viewing public, is open to question.” -The Guardian 04/07/05

  19. I’m with Sean on this one…
But if we can’t find the perfect quote, who should win it?

  20. whomever can come out and say they want it! holla to Brandon on this one.

  21. Brandon  |   Posted on Sep 22nd, 2006

Yeah…Sad I know, but I’ve been waiting for this cd. Who wouldn’t want the best album in 20 years?

Hey, I located an interview where he can be directly quoted (out of context)as saying “I’m an artist”.

I think Brandon should get the cd, just for wasting company resources.

  24. OK, Brandon e-mail us your address.

  25. I was going to go to the trouble of getting Brandon Flower’s acceptance speech from the 2005 MTV VMA Best New Artist, and even went to the trouble to try to get it from MTV (of which they’ve removed it appears), but then, I thought about how much I hate the Killers, and how I’d just tell you to burn the album. I’d really not add a number to their sales for the sake of burning it. And, I ALREADY have enough Duran Duran albums (Duran Duran and Justin Timberlake in the studio????)

  26. Scott, I love you for posting this interview, for real (even if everyone’s making fun of it, it’s all good)…and I’ll gladly take the CD! Haha…

    No, seriously.
