On Saturday night, Mr. Adams found himself in the BBC studios doing a live session for Radio 2’s Dermot O’Leary programme. Of course Cardinology was on the menu (via the Letterman-approved “Fix It”), but it seems the mercurial tunesmith is already looking beyond his recently released set, offering up an unexpected cover of the Foos’ radio staple “Times Like These.” The first few bars suggests Ry might take it in a haunted, “Wonderwall“-y direction, but instead he shines it in the splinted sunlight of Reckoning-era Grateful Dead. It sounds more like a Dead cover than a Foo Fighters cover. He really digs the Dead is what I’m saying.

The last time the Foos were at the BBC studios they pulled out an interesting cover, too.

  1. Reminds me of the covers he was playing during the Cold Roses JCN days. Nice.

  2. Well, it’s reassuring to hear that he can still sing like he did on CR and JCN, he’s just choosing not to these days.

  3. this is excellent. thanks!

  4. decent, refreshingly commentary-free version, but I would’ve been more impressed if this was recorded with his iPhone

  5. the cover sounds like a whole new song when he plays it. i can definitely sense that Grateful Dead sound to it.
