So, it started for this London outfit with a four-song EP entitled 4 From The Village (followed by the creatively-titled, seven-song 7 From The Village), which garnered much label attention, and along the way, it caught Stereogum’s ear. Now at home on Atlantic Records and gearing up to record a true debut, the band made their second trip to our fair city to shoot a vid and play a set at Merc.
The From The Village songs are a little bit folk, a little bit shoegaze and, when played live, really fucking loud. For the lesser material, this is the best we could say about ‘em; for the EP standouts (like these tracks, and the driving, big-hooked “Brittlesticks”), we were sold on the spot.
Fields – “Song For The Fields” (MP3)
Fields – “Isabel” (MP3)

The sounds were in place, the vocals spot on, the instrumentation well conceived, and yet, the band were a tad green. Nothing a little time (and a few more trips through the LES) can’t fix. Don’t worry, Fields; your full-length is bound to be a well-publicized affair, and on the strength of what we’ve heard, we’re all ears.

The girl from Fields, not sure of her name, was in a band called the Honeymoon who released a brilliant album called Dialogue which featured the tracks Truth Hurts and Reconcile. Both are amazing and the former was once a, non charting, single from a band called Thirteen:13. I felt people needed to know this useless information.
7 for the Village is actually the name of the American EP that combines their first two UK EPs (one of which was 4 from the Village).
Great show. Review over my way too.
i bought ‘7 from the village’ without even knowing the band. i was hoping it wasn’t some gloom/sludge metal band [cos you know how they like to pick innocent sounding names]. and i was floored. its so good.
Really stoked to see them in LA!
Yeah, i was there. It didn’t really impress me until the last couple of songs when they got loud.
bad link on the mp3s, sir.
The girl with the American Eagle t-shirt and tragic headband is wicked hot.
fields rocked the reading festival, suprisingly loudly. 4 from the village is a nice piece of vinyl.
well done fields.
