In which our favorite inconsistent freak folkie expounds upon the glories of pumpkins.

Here i am,
is it October ?

i Love this month,
it’s very
round, it’s round and fun to say in your mouth,
it rounds out your mouth in a nice round way.

i’m listening to Neil Young’s Living With War,
it’s like a letter,
adressed to the human family.

ain’t we like a family?

i don’t like that thought,
just right now,
because i’m thinking about the Traffic in LA.

rather think of us as all connected by something, by a thread we
can’t see,
you know what i mean.

my Friend Awalt has just told me to invest in a pumpkin , he’s gonna
win that carving contest and we are gonna start the month off right,

pppuuummmpppkkiiinnn,
it is a lovely word.

i’m headed to Big Sur right now to meet up with my buddy Anti,
to write, and wander,

that’s all for this evening,

over and out,
Devendra.

Yikes. He makes Moby look like Arianna Huffinton. Via janemag.com. Speaking of Jane and October, y’all have two more days to make your plea for the indie rock Halloween costumes designed for the mag by Rilo Kiley and Tegan & Sara.

We didn’t think it was possible, but Devendra is a more annoying blogger than Moby.

    Sorry Devendra… this is unrelated.

    Scott,

I love Pitchfork and all, but they just trashed Kaki King’s new album (my personal favorite for the year). Is 4.7 an injustice? Any opinions?

That’s the lamest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on, pummmmmmmmmmmkins!

Why does Devendra get the freak folk label when he’s just doing a Zappa impression. Zappa didn’t get called a Freak Do-Woppist, lets all just stick with the freak label, just cause you have an acoustic guitar and you can thunbpick a 4/4 pattern does not make you folk.

    Disclamer: I like Dev.

    Why do
    magazines keep giving

    celeberties blogs?

  5. Laura  |   Posted on Oct 4th, 2006

    Why did Jane magazine

    give Devndra
    Banhart a blog?

Jane magazine is still around? Some company must need the tax loss.

Was that Devendra Banhart or e.e. cummings?

    Ha ha ha ha ha!
That’s gold I tells ya…and they said my bachelor’s was good for nothing.

Aww, Laura, look at us. A coupla crazy kids with the same snarky reply. It’s comment-fate.

Do none of these celebrities realize how silly they look with their pseudo poetic styles of writing their blogs? I lose respect for each one I see do it…although out of this guy, Moby, Rosie O’Donnell and Flea…there was only a modicum of respect to begin with.

re: Kaki King – I’ve heard most of the album and I don’t think it deserved to get trashed at all, though a lot of her older fans seem disappointed by her attempt to change styles.

re: Devendra Banhart – maybe he should just dictate his ramblings to someone who can form them into coherent sentences.

well i assume jane asked devendra to blog. moby on the other hand is screwed up in a disgusting little NY apartment pounding on his keyboard about how gross soap is.

Like omg moby is so unique and weird and down-to-earth!!!!

god give me a break it’s all about who wants the attention they don’t even get.

    oh, what a silly hippie.

Scott, oh em gee, comment soulmates!

Not freak folk, naturalismo. It’s a silly likeable poem, I wouldn’t exactly call it a blog entry. It’s not as though he is ranting, like others said, about frivolous things.

A “successful” style gets repeated to satisfy the ego’s demand for attention and sales. Devandra seems to leave the ego outside the studio door. Also anyone who praises Vashti knows what is blessed in this world.
