The Acorn - No Ghost

This post brings the good news that the Acorn are set to release the follow-up to their fantastic 2007 LP Glory Hope Mountain. Lead singer Rolf Klausner based that album on the life of his mother, Gloria; still a thematically minded outfit, the Canadians say this album was the unexpected continuation and conclusion of a narrative that’s manifested itself as a trilogy, commencing with 2004′s The Pink Ghosts LP and carried forward by the next two years’ Blankets and Tin Fists EPs. The new album’s title track sets the stage — and ups the ante — for Chapter Three with a fantastic stew of electronics and grooves, backwards guitars and strings, and Rolf’s subtly soaring vocal. His voice ties together a loose, uplifting, and percussive arrangement, and the keywords it sings — “float,” “open arms” — are perfectly mirrored by the band’s collective mesh. Bodes very well for this LP, grab this track:

The Acorn’s No Ghost is out 6/1 via Paper Bag in Canada, and 6/1 digitally (8/10 physically) via Bella Union. You can preorder it here. There’ll be a limited edition of 300 180-gram, red-pressed vinyl with hand-silkscreened covers. Sounds purty.
