“The Weekenders” has the awesome Craig Finn snap, “The theme of this party’s the industrial age’ / You came in dressed as a train wreck,” among other memorable lines. Finn himself looked like he was continually impressed with his lyrics during their Friday appearance on Letterman:

“The Weekenders” did sound impressively crisp. But no one was more pleased with the performance than David Letterman, who couldn’t stop gushing about the band as he closed out the show: “Mmmhmm. Mmmhmm. Mmmhmm. Just great. Just great. Beautiful. Just great. Thank you. Always a pleasure. Just great. These guys, what do you think? You know what I mean? Just great.” As if you couldn’t tell by their numerous appearances on Late Night, he’s a big fan.
The band recently taped a SIRIUS XMU Session that will air May 12 at 9 p.m. Here’s a teaser of the Hold Steady doing a tender acoustic version of “Hurricane J.”

Oh right, THAT’s why I don’t front a rock band, I would look ridiculous. Still a fun song.
I’m sure that’s exactly why you’re not a frontman.
Craig looked high as hell.
The Hold Steady’s TV appearances, while fine, don’t do justice to their live shows. I saw them in Northampton, MA a few weeks ago and they were like a runaway rock and roll train…Craig Finn was a ball of pure, unbridled energy from start to finish. One of the best (and loudest) shows I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend checking them out if they tour near you.
I’m not really sure why this band is famous. I guess if you like the faux Bruce Sprinsteen schtick…
“Band X is bad because it is similar to earlier, more famous Band Y.” What a genius equation! You’re the Albert Einstein of snearing, cowardly, anonymous Internet putdowns.
I do think it’s funny that people who say derogatory things about Bruce Springsteen actually like this band, Springsteen is one of the greatest rock n rollers and songwriters of all time. He still puts on incredible 3-3 1/2 hour exhausting concerts. This band is an energetic bar band at best. I’ve yet to hear a truely great song from them. They also have zero charisma. Actually the singer seems like kind of a dork. But hey, to each their own.
