Last time we saw Chaz Bundick, aka Toro Y Moi, he was in a studio putting together a reinterpretation of Causers Of This’s “You Hid.” Well, no longer — he has it in his mind to “Leave Everywhere.” Really, that’s the sentiment here. The lilting rock ‘n’ roll-ish track, which will show up on a 7″ in July, introduces another aesthetic angle, suggesting this guy could outlive “chillwave.” (Weirdly, he sorta reminds me of Kurt Heasley here.)
The “Leave Everywhere” b/w “”First Date” single is out 7/19 in Europe and 7/20 in the U.S. via Carpark. Chaz is all gassed up and on the road:

This is pretty mcuh what I hoped would be next, its flippin gorgeous
How does someone this mediocre land a 40+ date tour of the world?
i was going to call you a doo doo face, or something. but then i realized being a stereogum hater is no fun. to each his own i guess.
and you have a cool last name :D
And thanks :D
Haha. That was probably the nicest response I’ve ever gotten on this blog.
I totally agree. I saw this dude with Caribou and I was not very impressed, but came home to find out that he’s actually getting a large amount of internet buzz. Good for him, I guess.
lawl, does that fact ever make you rethink your posts…?
TYM has been one of my favorites since you guys posed Blessa/109 last summer. I even got the limited 7″….now I see he is releasing his new single on my birthday??? Couldn’t ask for a better present this year. Thanks, Chaz
Bitching song. Saw him open for Islands and I must say.. This is quiet the departure from the sound I heard then.. But, this sound is really awesome, I dig
Proving he’s got some chops. I’m expecting him to be around a while.
this song is perfectly timed for summer. i’m pumped to hear what else is up this guy’s sleeve…
I like much of Toro y Moi, but somewhere out there, even Annette Funicello is saying, “Um, this track is lame. Now let’s play Beach Blanket Bingo.”
pretty blah. take away the gimmicky wannabe ’60s production and reverb overkill and you have a boring little 3 minutes of average-ness. there are too many indie rock acts trying to cop this vintage sound without realizing there’s a lot more to crafting a good song than tape compression and verb…
