Kate Moss?
kid rock ftw. only person in the whole video that didn’t seem to be getting it. this isn’t feel like making love buddy. fortunately brian wilson showed up to lend an air of actual craziness to the proceedings.
So does that mean Johnny Depp appears twice?
A nice video in honor of the Man in Black. Owen Wilson and Rick Rubin at the end are great.

Brandon Flowers!
when i saw owen i laughed out loud:
wildcat … grr… wildcat …
this just in:
kanye west is pissed off iggy pop’s name was first on SGs list. demands apology
Cool video with the exceptions of Kanye West and Justin Timberlake who don’t even remotely relate to The Man In Black.
JT does relate to Cash. Timberlake is a Cash fan and was genuinely bothered that the video for ‘Cry me a River’ won out over Cash’s ‘Hurt’ at the VMA’s and declined the award
It’s nice to see Kate Moss in a Johnny Cash video again
Holy crap, that has to be the worst site on the internet. Is there any way they could make it less functional?
Damn, I got to get that album.
What a pointless video.
That was one hell of a song. The video was ok too, but i didn’t need to see flea, bono, or anthony kiedis
Where’s Me?!
It’s obvious (because you guys can’t stop heaping the gooey love all over his band) that Brandon Flowers is the one cameo on your list missing from the video.
I liked the video, but I wish it had been a little more linear. If you told those artits that they were going to be in JCash’s last video, they would have done anything you told them to.
Here’s my idea.
There is endless footage of Cash – and I know I’ve seen him walking. So picture this: he’s walking down the streets of some city (probably a la LA or something with lots of cool graffiti). As he’s walking he sees various crimes being committed, as well as the low-lifes he describes in his song. I mean, come on! Kate Moss is already a crack adict, so that’s no stretch. She could be Iggy Pop’s wife or something.
And then you could have a gang of Billy Gibbons and Graham Nash and Dennis Hopper assaulting Corinne Bailey Rae, Owen Wilson stealing Sheryl Crow’s purse, Bono and JT going down in a hail of bullets from a Tommy Lee-led drive by.
And Johnny Cash sees all of this as he’s walking around the unnamed city. He finally ends at Rick Rubin’s studio, and as Rick swivels around in his chair, Cash shoots him in the face.
is it just me or does keef look more and more like the enter sandman old man?
Not a bad video, but when the next one kicked in, I recalled that there aren’t many videos that can top Cash’s cover of “Hurt”. That one causes quite a stir if you turn up the volume.
darfur > mtv’s site
That video made me nauseous.
And I hate Bono. Ugh.
The song is dark and beautiful like the man, but the video is sickening– a song of God, redemption, humility and you have jerkoff carousel of beautful people looking sad and intense?! A mournful reckoning with God where models and pop stars are posed as the true deities?! The Cash voice serving as a soundtrack for a Hollywood access clip in artsy b/w?! Ugh!!!
Don’t worry Joe, God will cut all those beautiful faces down. Sooner or later.
haha, oh brandon. people can’t stop picking on him.
in other news, that album is awesome.
i wish there was a number we could all hold up for johnny cash like people do for dale earndhart.
Its Brandon Flowers, ok? So you can stop it with the Killers already. They have a great album out and there’s nothing you can do about it.
about the video…
So basically, God is going to cut all of them down? I wouldn’t mind that happening to a few of those people.
lol@Akena
much as i love johnny depp, I have to agree with joe. well said.
bono and johnny cash dont mix.
ew. bono.

good to see patti smith on the vid, a nice suprise. kanye west…an unpleasant suprise. he dumb. i think his parents write his raps, because he’s really dumb in interviews. just because he said that bush thing, everybody thinks he’s a hero, but …HE DUMB
Hate to break it to you, but Bono and Johnny Cash have had dinner together and knew each other. They were friends, though I can’t say how close exactly.
I think the video could’ve been good, but half of the people in it are just… ridiculous (i.e. Kanye, Brandon Flowers, Timberlake). Maybe the concept was to show people that God’s gonna cut down?
Bono & Johnny Cash? Check your history, Megin. Or better yet, listen to U2′s Zooropa (“The Wanderer,” with Johnny Cash) or Johnny Cash’s American III: Solitary Man (“One”).
Ignorance and comment forms don’t mix.
For God’s sake, it was just artists paying their respects to the man. Who cares what you think of their music or even them as people, it’s a video showing that his music affected people from all backgrounds, all walks of life, and influenced people in every genre of music.
Get over yourselves.

It’s good. Pretty damn good. But Why Corrine Bailye? WTF did she do?
Is it Josh Todd instead of Tommy Lee?
By 1993 Johnny and U2 recorded a song plastered in Zooropa album. After hearing this song, Rick Rubin contacted the man in black and start to work together. So I think Bono has the right to be in the video.
Whoever said Bono and Johnny Cash dont mix is an idiot. I think they go to gether poerfectly. Now, i think in his day johnny would have liked to kill kanye west or kid rock, but the rest of them i can pretty much accept.
oh, and Brian Wilson happens to be the greatest musician ever. Definitely leaving for his concert in half an hour.
I actually think that including Kanye West is a great call. I’m not attempting to “compare” Kanye to Cash. No one compares to Cash. However, I certainly think he “relates” to Cash on a number of levels.
First, like Cash, West is outspoken about his Christianity (for example, his song “Jesus Walks,”) while at the same time making no effort to hide his failings or struggles with vice.
Second, West has cast himself as an anti-establishment/populist figure not only by famously criticizing Bush post-Katrina (similar to Cash denouncing the Vietnam War), but also by tuning his back on the established “gangsta” image within rap and instead creating a “preppy” image (similar to Cash eschewing the glitzy “rhinestone cowboy” image in favor of becoming the “Man in Black.”)
Third, like Cash, West is an artist who has made a name for reaching out beyond his immediate musical surroundings. He is best known for his hip-hop work with Roc-A-Fella records, but he has also worked with artists such as Adam Levine, Alicia Keys, and John Mayer, as well as re-working songs such as “My Funny Valentine” and “I’ll Fly Away” so that they become credible hip-hop records.
Look, Kanye West has a long way to go before he can be considered a legend in the same category as Johnny Cash. But that’s true of pretty much everyone in the video, and it is a credit to Mr. Cash’s legacy to have one of the top stars from the (superficially) different world of hip-hop acknowledge te debt he owes to Mr. Cash.
omg this music video i actually like it doesn’t have to do with sex like all the rest do pretty cool but why would a 60 year old guy sing bout sex anyways lol!

Great song, but a thoughtless and hurried video. This video should take its time as the song does. The editing and stylistic approach actually distracts from the song, instead of accompanies it.

No Brandon Flowers. If you pause it on the eye-flash sequence at the end, though, you see Whoopi Goldberg as well.
Well, loved Johnnys last album and loved this song especiall, very powerfull. The video is very good, interesting cept there are a few people in there im not sure should be there but im pretty sure Johnny would have gotten a kick out of lol.

Except for one person on this forum No one got what this video is everyone in it saying good bye to a great singer/songwriter Do you see any of them looking happy
WE MISS YOU JOHNNY
All you back bitters…God gonna cut you down.
A note about a previous comment (Matt at November 9, 2006 2:34 PM): “Cool video with the exceptions of Kanye West and Justin Timberlake who don’t even remotely relate to The Man In Black.”
Timberlake actually came up with the video concept (all celebrities, all wearing black). Just thought you’d find that interesting.
If anyone in the video is questionable, i’d say Kate Moss.
It’s a shame about the editing though. All those overlaid quick cuts really took away from what would have been some great images.
Awesome vid, I’m thinking the odd one out if Sir Peter Blake? He passed away in 2001 long before this was made.
are you sure Tommy Lee isn’t Scott Weiland? I’m not sure but the dancing and clothes looks like his style more than Tommy Lee’s.
Justin Timberlake should be in there, he won the MTV best video award shortly after Cash’s death and stated it should have been Cash’s for “Hurt”. Stating that growing up his grandmother played those records for him and there was no one comparable.
and hey, if one screaming fan watches this video because of Timberlake being in it and likes the Man in Blacks music, so much the better.
you forgot to mention whoopie goldberg, her face shows up at the end
There is no Tommy lee, so what the hell?
The one name from the list at the top that wouldn’t be in the video is Sir Peter Blake, as he was killed several years ago in the amazon by pirates.
there is only one person on the video who was the closest to cash and that is kris kristofferson. They were blood brothers.
Uuurgh, you people are fools! A huge thankyou to Uhyeah for pointing out the last track on zooropa titled ‘the wanderer’ was made by both Johhny and Bono.
You cant ‘Ew’ Bono, he is a briliant man whom has contributed greatly to music as we know it, he is also working his fingers to the bone to support poverty stricken african communities, whom are seriously affected by HIV/AIDS, giving them the oppourtunity to get medicine. And you say he is ‘Ew.’
I like the earlier idea by DH for the video, it would have been awesome, despite Bono being killed in a drive-by shooting, which actually made me laugh, and i dont know why.
You cant criticie whom can and cant be in Johnny’s video clip, he may have had close bonds with some of these people, just becuase you dont know it doesnt mean its not true, they may have been close friends, and thier appearance in the clip may have been completely unrelated to their style of music.
Wow, what a video. I may not like all the celebrities on the video, but I respect them for paying tribute to a legend. I just wish I was there!
you guys are fuckin retarted lol. im never comin back here so dont talk shit cuz i wont read it lol.. but justin timberlake was born and raised in nashville, idiots, the country capitol.. oh yeah, he met johnny cash about 20 times when he was luttle btw, but yet noone thinks he should be in the video.. and kanye west was the producer you fuckin douche bags.. p.s. he co produced a cash album, god damn you guys are dumb.. and everyone else is in the video because they personally knew him or he was an inspiration to them. dont you internet losers have anything better to do than sit around and hate on famous people lol.. u think that god is gonna cut hem down because why?? they are talented?? they are rich haha.. yet you are judging them and you wont get cut down as well?? get some fucking lives lol.. p.s. the video kicks ass..
It’s funny
you know anyone who doesn’t have a life said somn bad about this video
don’t you geeks have a girlfriend or somn?
get out of your parent’s house, find someone who’s onlt interests are star wars and anime porn, and never say anything bad about the man in black ever again
I think it is criminal to have a pussy like Bono in the same video as Keith Richards while Johnny Cash is singing. Shouldn’t he be off solving all the world’s problems with his soft, generic music? And further, in inclusion of Jay Z and Kanye West makes me think that the record industry is going to flog poor dead John for years to come trying to make more money off sub par studio leavings from a dead man, just like they have been doing to Tupac for years.
Be careful about who you claim god will cut down.”Let he who stands take heed, lest he fall” and all the while ill keep a close watch on this heart of mine…
I think the song is Great!-Love Johnny Cash…I do however think that most of the artist who jumped at this opportunity, did it for publicity. I mean, come on, who wouldn’t be in a video that everybody knows is going to be big news? I’m just glad that the song was not desecrated by letting them sing their parts along with The Man In Black! I happen to like Bono and Johnny Depp…But even their presence in this video disturbs me.
I feel like it shouldn’t portray famous people who’s only battles are drug addictions and too much money in their bank accounts. Give me a break, there are some that struggle to make ends meet, those are the ones that should have represented that video. Do you really think Johnny Cash would’ve wanted these people in his video (even if he was friends with Bono).
Love the song and the vid. Whoever said that wasnt tommy lee, look again. You know it’s tommy by the tattoo on his stomach
This is one of the most beautiful music videos I have ever seen. I disagree with those who have said that ‘such and such a person doesn’t fit in’, I think every single person on that video fits perfectly. I think that including the not-so-obvious people like kate moss and corinne bailey rae just accentuates the perfectness of it all!
A beautiful and fitting tribute. Johnny would be proud!
All of you who have negative comments, must not know anything about Johnny, who his friends were or anything else. Johnny did not judge, if the people in the video were kind to him(and please don’t tell me that you knew anything about their friendship)then he would be honored to have them in his video. If he didn’t know them and thought the experience would help them,he would have allowed them to be in the video .He judged people by how they treated himself and others, doesn’t matter how little or how much money they had, if they were drug addicts or were not.He was a born again Christian, who had been to hell and back, and if he could help anyone that was going in that direction he would. He let them all know that the hope was there, just for the asking.Christians are the non-perfects, the people that wanted better, and never gave up when all seemed lost. God used Johnny and June to show the world what living a good life was about. It was not about money, it was about happiness. Was he perfect, not at all and neither am I ,his friend, but we are forgiven. Someone has given us the opportunity to see this awesome video with all these un-perfect people in it, so why not just enjoy it, and wish that you too could have some contact with one of the most humble people God put on this earth. I guess you just would have had to live in the days of the “GREAT MAN IN BLACK”
How in the hell did you catch Whoopi Goldberg in the end? I rewound and played it slow and sure enough there she was! Someone has a good eye!
Does anyone think this could be POLITICAL ?? Hello I think everyone in this cant stand our president??????????
They missed David Allen Coe to intro the vid
If you go to internet movie data base and look up each of the people in the video, you will find that each of them in some way relate either back to Johnny Cash or someone else in the video who was directly linked to Johnny Cash. It’s like the 7 degrees of Johnny Cash.
John at November 15, 2006 1:23 PM
I agree with you
also yeah jesus saves Peace
suani and jimi melville vs. the search engine! peter blake the environmentalist was killed, sir peter blake the artist is in the video.
kid rock comes across as a clown. then again, he usually does.
Ok since your bullshitting who doesn’t appear in the video? Is it Terrence Howard?
i think a lot of you don’t know the
concept of the video. They wanted
people who admired THE LEGEND and the
beat of the song is why it is so fast
paced. These people admired Cash. It
is a tribute to a legend.
I love the video, and I couldn’t give
a darn about the people in it. It just
proves that all genres admired the man
in black
yeah, a lot of you are dumb. you obviously don’t understand the concept of the video, and are concentrating too much on face value of celebrities-ignoring the metaphors.
there was no editing of faces here, no touch-ups to make the celebs look fancy and beautiful. it’s just them. as people. people you could know personally. your confidant, your Mom, the crazy neighbor who screams out their windows at squirrels in the yard, people.
who is the man in the cab reading the bible?
it’s Terence Howard. And you all need to read Johnny Cash’s Auto Biography before you post your comments (my apologies to anyone who has and commented… as much as I’d love to read all the comments I just don’t have the time or energy)
What about Roseanna Arquette? She’s in there too, but I don’t see her on the list. Also, are you sure that is Tommy Lee? It looks more like the guy that’s singing for Slash’s band – cannot remember his name, always in and our for heroin addiction…
Someone above posted “and Justin Timberlake who don’t even remotely relate to The Man In Black.”…. Now I’m no Justine fan…but dude. The concept of this video was HIS and he was the one that got people together to do it.
So he relates to this video in that ….. it was his idea. So give him his few seconds on screen.
It seems that a lot of you are missing the point of this video. You’re all saying how bad it is that they chose a handful of glamourous celebrities merely looking sad to represent a monumental song about God, redemption, etc. However, don’t you think that those celebrities thoroughly understand that they are sacrificing their image and reputation to complement Cash’s video and to say “yeah, god is going to cut all of us down one of these days.” and that they realize just how stupid and selfish and immature they all have acted, and that by appearing in this video they are saying sorry and goodbye to Mr. Cash. Because when it comes down to it, these snobby and greedy attitudes that owe a lot to the media and broadening western culture are truly invaluable to today’s society and are just downright stupid and unnecessary. And I believe that 99% of the celebrities that appeared in this music video understood this, and were trying to make amends. Johnny Carter Cash was an extraordinary songwriter/singer/musician. May he rest in peace.
