Fans of Stravinsky and Jack White (you know you’re out there), take note: Aluminium is your dream project. No, Jack White doesn’t have a hand in performing the music; in fact, his only involvement with the album was to say “I like” — and, of course, to have written the songs that appear on the record. See, Aluminium is a pomo, classical interpretation (by XL Records founder Richard Russell and British composer Joby Talbot) of Jack’s tunes. If you haven’t heard it yet, hit Alumiiinium to stream five of the songs.
The album was pressed in an extremely limited run of 3,333 CDs and 999 LPs. There are still a few CDs available (hit the site directly to purchase), but 998 LPs have been snatched, with only one awaiting a home. So, do you like vinyl? Jack White? Wacky string interpretations of indie rock gems? Well then you’re in luck! We’ve got the last Aluminium vinyl to give away, and it may just have your name on it.

“Hand Springs,” because of those sweet guitar riffs, and because it involves a confrontation at a bowling alley, possibly inspiring Jack to punch out the dude from the Von Bondies next door to Detroit’s Garden Bowl four years later. They don’t appreciate good manners like girls back in the 50′s did, for example. So a lot of guys now, don’t use those well respected manners anymore.

probably hardest button to button – the hardest song to pin down exactly why i like it. i just do.
My favourite Jack White song is probably Store Bought Bones. When it was announced that Jack White had teamed up with The Greenhornes and Brendon Benson, my mind started to get frustrated as to what they would sound like together. Store Bought Bones came as a shock to me, and was more impressive than it’s coupled song (Steady As She Goes) but has been overlooked by many Raconteurs fans. It is quite retro and very catchy, and brings up seventies imagery. I LOVE IT! Possibly my favourite thing Jack White has been involved in (other than his production skills for the Whirlwind Heat records)! It works so bloody well!!!

I wanted to thank all the fine folks at Stereogum (or the one guy in marketing who pointed at my name before lunch) for picking me as the Aluminium #999 winner! I received the vinyl in the mail today. I already own the CD and have listened to it many times. If you don’t already own, go get a copy! It’s phenomenal! The album is just a very cool addition to my continuously growing vinyl collection. Thanks again Stereogum! And not to sound greedy, but I did read in the contest update something about getting laid??? I’ll be waiting by my mailbox….
