Obviously, calling any Beatles stuff “new” is a stretch, but to accompany the Fab Four-celebrating Cirque du Soleil show LOVE, Paul, Ringo, Yoko, and Olivia Harrison poured over the master tapes from Abbey Road studios to create some experimental mixes of the band’s classics. Sir George Martin and Giles Martin then took over to produce the tracks, to be used during the show and released later this month as an album.
Sometimes stripped and intimate (“While My Guitar Gently Weeps”), sometimes with new orchestral arrangements (the intro to “Octupus’s Garden”), sometimes retooled entirely (“Strawberry Fields Forever”), the remixes are worth a listen for Beatles fanatics (i.e. you). The changes are often subtle (if at all apparent), but hear ‘em for yourself at Sound Mojo.
The LOVE show is now running in Sin City (with tickets ranging from $69-$150) and we’re wondering if any of our Las Vegas readers seen it. We’re also wondering: do we even have any Las Vegas readers? If so, do you just loooooove Sam’s Town? What up with “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?”
LOVE is out 11/21 on Capitol.

Not sure about vegas readers, but your LA readers definately make it to sin city every once in a while. Quite a few angelinos have seen LOVE already and from what I hear, its entertaining, but similar to the other cirque shows, except this one has a cooler stage.
has anyone ever been to sams town? its a dump. junior high kids hang out there to see the lastest will ferrell movie, and elderly woman show off there new gold handbags to one another. i dont believe the killers are from vegas i really dont.

I went to Vegas in August and saw the show. I have seen two other Cirque shows and, as a rabid Beatles fan, this blows them away.
The sound and stage are phenomenal and the execution is nothing short of amazing. Go! Make it the reason to go to Vegas.

yes, sam’s town is a dump. it’s a locals casino on the east side of town, teeming with tons of old people and white trash shitkickers. it’s also the home of the world’s largest western clothing store, which is where brandon must be getting his colonel sanders ties from.
brandon flowers once worked at the gold coast casino, which is somehow shittier than sam’s town. so look out for the ‘gold coast’ lp in 2008!

This album is significantly less interesting if you’ve heard the anthology ? because most of the alt. takes can be found on there. Still nice though.

Figured as much. Those Beatles are so savvy at making money. Except when it comes to downloading music.
another (expatriot) vegas reader here with a little dirt on the killers:
1. nobody in vegas heard of them until about a year after they blew up huge. vegas is the least. hip. city. in. america. it’s the d-bag capital of the universe, people. don’t expect them to have culture, let alone good taste in music (cirque being the lone exception).
2. sam’s town a dump? sam’s town is gross. i don’t know anybody that’s been there in a long, long time.
3. brandon flowers once said something in an interview akin to “anyone in involved with ska bands and the ska ‘era’ of music should be shot.” i’m paraphrasing, but the point: drummer Ronnie Vanucci drummed for Attaboy Skip, Vegas’s prominent ska band back in the day. also ironic: faux-glam-rock is going to prove to be as fleeting as ska, swing, latin, punk, or any of the megapop trends of the last ten years.
i’ve seen love, i saw it about 2 weeks after it opened. i was in the 6th or 7th row. $300 for just 2 tickets BUT it was worth the money. it was so great. i’m not even that much of a beatles fan, i listen to them occasionally but i still loved it. if you’re in las vegas. go see it.

I think the new version of Lady Madonna is terrific.
I live in SC, but I saw LOVE while in Vegas last month for the Adobe MAX conference. I’m a Beatles freak, always found Cirque vaguely creepy, but I found it amazing, mostly just for hearing the new mixes. My full review’s here:
