Crystal Stilts’ Alight Of Night should be on more year-end lists. If you still haven’t taken a listen after our repeated urgings, here’s another opportunity: the Brooklyn band’s dusky, melancholic ’80s-esque noise pop makes a nice foil to grainy footage of the band and their friends having fun in the Army of Kids-directed video for one of the album’s standouts “Prismatic Room.” You get a lot of sunspots, trees, folks kidding around or sleeping. It often seems like bummed, baritone frontman Brad Hargett’s off somewhere by himself, or at least by himself behind those sunglasses, which makes as much good sense as drummer and friendly bartender Frankie Rose smiling for the camera.

Don’t be fooled! Frankie is only friendly long enough to use you as a stepping stone!
