Stereogum reader Joe send us a YouTube that appears to have been deleted (by Team Clay?), but thankfully there’s more than one person with a camera at any event these days. Aiken is caught here, in Illinois, performing “All Is Well” — when all most definitely is not — botching not one but two glory notes. Here’s what you gotta do: Let it load up, forward to 3:40 or so, and press play. What’s better: the crowd laughing at him after the first, or Clay’s face knowing he’s about to mangle another in just a few more seconds?

Dropping it down to C or even C# might have been a good idea.

Yep, that was an opening night clanger for the ages. But as los says, real singing means you take that risk. He adjusted and hit the final note properly the next night. (If you don’t want to hear the whole thing, scroll to 3:56.)

why not just sing that note falsetto? He’s mic’d all he would need to do is come in closer. No one would notice.

You are a bunch of tards! A man with an amazing voice messes up once ot twice and you SLAM him yet you will listen to mediocrity everyday on the radio or with your cd’s? Get real. Look up his song “solitare” wait until the middle and listen to the longest note ever..done perfectly. Why is it when someone is actually an amazing singer like celine dion or clay aiken people immediately call them dorks, old people music, elevator music and every other negative comment their little minds can come up with?. This country has zero taste. It’s sad!
