Brooklyn sound engineer/producer Eric Feigenbaum has worked with MGMT and Passion Pit, but Ego Puppets is the first time he’s stepped out on his own. It took him a while to have the confidence to go solo (all of his photos, which show him in profile or otherwise obscured, hint that he’s still not exactly comfortable), so songs like first single “Avatar Couture,” have been cooking up for a while. You can hear it in the meticulous arrangement of synths, twitchy drums, guitar, and reversed samples under his falsetto. A lot of bold moves for a song about being nervous.
The “Avatar Couture” single (with b-side “Remembrance of Time Soon Lost”) is out 7/1 via iTunes. He’ll play Brooklyn’s Death By Audio 6/21.
